Purpose/Objective of the Job:
This position will be responsible for providing general legal support to the US and Worldwide Cell Therapy Development and Commercialization groups of Bristol Myers Squibb. This role will have responsibility for leading the legal support for a CAR T Cell Therapy product, as well as work on other Cell Therapy products, pipeline assets, Cell Therapy franchise issues, and Cell Therapy patient support programs. The lawyer in the role will be responsible for providing legal advice to a broad array of clients including clinical development, Cell Therapy operations, medical, commercialization (marketing and sales), and market access. The person in the role will be required to establish professional credibility and relationships with executive level colleagues and clients, while working effectively across a wide array of issues and stakeholders independently and in collaboration with Law Department colleagues. The role covers work from clinical development through commercialization in a number of areas including FDA regulatory law, fraud and abuse, and healthcare compliance considerations.
Key Responsibilities and Major Duties:
  • Anticipate and proactively identify legal issues applying an enterprise view, and provide clear, operational and effective legal advice the supports informed decisions.
  • Collaborate across the Law Department matrix to ensure delivery of seamless, comprehensive legal advice.
  • Leverage knowledge of emerging legal and industry issues and trends to inform advice and address potential legal risk.
  • Lead simplification of policies, procedures and guidance affecting business activities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Education: A law degree from a US Law School. NJ Bar admission, or NJ limited in-house counsel admission.
  • Knowledge: Broad knowledge of healthcare law, including advertising and promotion, anti-kickback and bribery laws, regulatory policy, contracts, and healthcare compliance standards.
  • Experience: At least five to eight years of legal experience, preferably with a law firm that advises companies in highly regulated industries on commercial and medical capabilities and activities or in-house at a pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device company. Successful experience in cross-functional interactions is required.
  • Skills: Superior personal integrity and ethics, including exceptional judgment in complex situations. Demonstrated ability to operate confidently through unique and novel issues, and to proactively offer solution to clients that are consistent with law and compliance standards. Ability to think strategically, including with regard to long term implications of decisions. Experience navigating and leading in a matrix organization. Ability to prioritize when faced with competing demands. Flexibility to work on a broad range of matters. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong relationships across the business and within the Law Department. Flexibility to work on a broad range of matters. Ability to communicate complex issues clearly, verbally and in writing.
