Job description

IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for a Vice President of Surety Strategic Initiatives who can be located at any of our Surety locations in the Eastern time zone. This role reports to the Executive Vice President of Surety.  The ideal candidate will have experience providing operations, technology, and business intelligence-related leadership, guidance, and direction in a matrixed environment.  This role is responsible for operational assessment, process improvement, planning, and making recommendations to Surety Business Leadership. The role may have direct reports.
As a Home Office Management Team member, the Vice President of Surety Strategic Initiatives works a hybrid schedule.  The hybrid schedule reflects our values (thinking and acting like an owner, collaboration, and teamwork) as it requires working from the office with colleagues and other disciplines Monday through Wednesday, with the option of working remotely on Thursday and Friday.
Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership by steering organizational change, cultivating relationships, and putting the organization in a position to succeed. This role has a heavy focus on change management across all areas.
  • Leads day-to-day operations with a focus on execution excellence and continuous improvement. 
  • Ensures the following strategic priorities and projects are led, managed, and executed: reinsurance, credit modeling, portfolio management, technology platforms (internal/external), Marketing/Sales Producer Agreements, and SharePoint management and other priorities.
  • Project evaluation, design, and management for the following strategic projects: Centralized Cash Application process, improved premium billing and receivables process, online Commercial Surety application, Underwriting System improvements that include integrated approach, and Organizational Deep Dive focused on business process improvement.
  • Develops process, Technology, and Business Intelligence roadmap. Prioritize need, investment, and return.
  • Communicates with other areas within IAT, such as Underwriting, Finance, Operations, Information Technology, and Business Intelligence, to ensure transparency regarding Strategic Initiatives.
  • Vendor management and negotiation.
  • Assists in Training & Development efforts.
  • Manages state rate and other filings; assists corporate functions in other filing/compliance requests.
  • Coordinates regional audit and Home Office/Regional Office file review processes and business-unit ERM process.


Qualifications:
Must Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least fifteen years of relevant experience or equivalent experience
  • Equivalent experience is defined as nineteen years of relevant experience.
  • Able to demonstrate to a strategic thinker, a self-starter with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to demonstrate a knowledge of Surety underwriting and underwriting processes and procedures.
  • Possesses an advanced knowledge of a variety of systems and platforms used in underwriting. 
  • Possesses a knowledge of Surety industry norms, regulations, bond forms, and compliance requirements.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership experience and skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, capable of presenting complex issues in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner to business and technical professionals, including C-level executives.
  • Strategic mindset with an ability to plan and execute strategies.
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to meeting deadlines.
