That is why, for over 125 years, Neighborhood House has been working alongside families to ensure that they have access to food and housing for their basic needs and education opportunities to help them achieve their dreams and goals. Currently, we serve more than 15,000 people a year through our integrated programs in six St. Paul neighborhoods.
Today, we are in the middle stage of the Hope In Action Campaign for Neighborhood House, a $17.5 million campaign that will significantly expand and enhance programs and build stability for the long term needs within our community.

Division Summary
The Neighborhood House Vice President of Finance is a vital member of the organization’s executive leadership team, responsible for all finance and accounting functions. In addition to ensuring high-quality, timely accounting practices, the Vice President of Finance is responsible for ensuring that the Board of Directors, President & CEO, peers, and all budget owners within the organization have timely, clear, accurate financial information that supports mission success and fiscal responsibility.
For the last three years Neighborhood House has been working with Diverge Finance Cooperative to fulfill all finance and accounting functions in the organization. As Neighborhood House has grown and Diverge’s business model has evolved, the two organizations have decided that Neighborhood House needs an in-house finance department. We are seeking a leader to design, rebuild and lead in-house finance and accounting functions within our organization’s financial capacity.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Finance is responsible for Financial Strategy, Planning, and Management. We are seeking a driven, servant-oriented, people-focused leader to champion Neighborhood House’s success and well-being. In this pivotal role, you will lead by example, cultivating a culture of service, collaboration and trust amongst your team, peers and the organization as a whole.
Responsibilities
Budgeting and Planning – lead a collaborative approach
- Lead teams to create budgets that tie organization strategies to effective work plans.
- Guide interactive process involving program leads, development, leadership, and board.
Strategic Planning and Financial Analysis – planning with a purpose
- Create financial forecasts for management and strategy-level decision making.
- Develop plans for reserves, contributed revenue, earned revenue, and capital needs.
- Collaborate with executive, program, and board leaders to set strategies.
Audit Readiness – strong financial structures, processes, and systems build trust
- Set solid monthly close processes that equal an “always audit-ready” fiscal function.
- Design and guide processes and systems to support efficient and clean audits.
- Act as liaison to audit firm and finance committee.
Reporting – financial storytelling and elegant financial statements
- Align accounting and finance systems to match organization and program structure.
- Ensure financial systems strengthen and amplify mission success.
- Develop and improve a timely program and organizational finance reporting process.
Investment Management
- Develop and refine an effective, mission-aligned investment policy.
- Create and implement long and short-term strategies for organization financial assets.
Cash Management
- Ensure adequacy of working capital and cash reserves
Staff Management
- Design the staffing structure needed to effectively deliver high quality, timely accounting reports
- Hire and oversee all staff within the Finance team
- Foster a positive, collaborative, fun, and productive team environment
Qualifications:
- Significant technical expertise in nonprofit accounting, including knowledge of and proficiency implementing FASB standards and GAAP accounting principles.
- Experience leading a finance function involving multiple revenue and expense sources, including government grants.
- Excellent skills in budget preparation and fiscal management and experience managing annual cash flows of several million dollars.
- Ability to develop financial plans, manage resources, and collaborate with others to maximize organizational accomplishments.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
- Experience hiring and supervising staff in an inclusive manner with high accountability
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, plus knowledge of Sage Intacct or similar financial software.
- Experience managing a portfolio of agency investments and capital assets preferred
- Capital campaign experience preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish, Hmong, Karen or Somali preferred.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
