Job Description – Vice President of Business Development

Houlihan Capital is seeking to hire a Vice President of Business Development dedicated to the firm’s Business Development and sourcing efforts within the alternative investment industry. The primary role of the position is to work with the senior-level Valuation staff to manage existing and build new referral relationships with auditors, fund administrators, attorneys, and compliance professionals, focused on but not limited to, the Western Region of the country. The primary goal of this position is to grow the recurring illiquid portfolio valuation practice. This is a remote-based position with the ideal candidate residing in the Bay Area, to have a consistent presence in this un-tapped market.
Sales (80%)
- Execute the organization’s strategic vision around new Business Development efforts in growing VC, PE, Hedge, and registered fund clients across all industries, including crypto.
- Research local markets to sell new business and create a strategy to (1) target key clients and referral sources and (2) grow and maintain a strong referral network.
- Identify, qualify, and secure opportunities.
- Outbound calling and emailing to pursue sales with prospective clients and referral sources.
- Develop sales strategies and execute sales plan to meet or exceed assigned sales objectives.
- Develop proposals aimed at securing clients from such endeavors.
- Meet quarterly and annual sales goals.
- Represent firm at marketing and networking events, including evening events.
- Identify and socialize marketing opportunities for the firm through various media channels.
- Create new marketing email ideas to stay in front of fund prospects and referral sources.
- Independently execute Business Development strategies to achieve objectives.
Administrative (20%)
- Participate in weekly internal sales meetings with Valuation group.
- Maintain the firm’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system by ensuring that all lead, company, and contact information related to prospects, current clients, referral sources, and external networking activities, including all relevant notes and addition of new contacts and firms, are accurately entered into the CRM.
- Follow up with new contacts or referrals in a timely manner by emails, calls and/or requested proposals.
Desired Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of Business Development gained in a professional services firm such as an accounting firm, fund administrator or other alternative investment fund service provider.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Demonstrated strength in collaborating across teams and in successfully managing projects and initiatives.
- Professional focus and discipline required to balance long-term strategic vision with effective day-to-day implementation of strategy will be critical, as is good judgment and problem-solving skills.
- Consistent ability to meet deadlines and the flexibility to travel and work additional hours as needed to meet firm goals is essential.
- Organizational skills and persistence to follow up with prospects in a timely, consistent manner.
- Elevated analytical and critical thinking skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
- Exhibit a professional, business-like demeanor.
