The Vice President of Medical Affairs (VPMA) role is a unique opportunity for a Medical Affairs leader to build a team of internally and externally facing professionals to support the work of the Hazel clinical provider team. The VPMA will be responsible for building and guiding the Medical Affairs function by setting a vision and direction. The VPMA will have several responsibilities, including: coordinating our licensing processes for our provider team, ensuring that providers are compliant with state regulations particularly supervisory ratios, identifying and investigating state licensing requirements, working in tandem with our revenue capture team and other areas within Hazel to coordinate sharing or provider information, and coordinating/providing administrative support for provider peer review committees. Additionally, the VPMA will ensure that all Hazel medical staff members maintain current credentials and licenses to work legally in each of the states identified for each provider. They will monitor upcoming renewal dates and work with medical staff to advise them on the required steps to maintain their licenses.
The VPMA will report to the Chief Health Officer. What You'll Do:
  • Oversee the day to day provider internal licensing supervision/delegation/collaboration processes to successful completion;
  • Maintain and manage policies and procedures for provider submission of licensing documents, storage and internal sharing of documents. This includes:
    • Understanding State by state licensing processes for MD, NPs, PAs and LMHPs for fast application filing and if any are not allowed via telehealth
    • Devising estimated acceptance of state applications with proper follow up mechanisms
    • Storing appropriate information of providers to access for quick application completion
    • Identify/troubleshoot any potential barriers to application process
  • Oversee the day-to-day activities including leading, coordinating, monitoring, and maintaining data sharing process between key teams within Hazel (e.g. RCM/credentialing)
  • Track state by state supervision/delegation and collaboration agreements for NP, PAs, MDs, and LMHPs and collect them and/or file with states (when needed)
  • Work with legal support on researching and/or updating new supervision/delegation and collaboration agreements for NP, PAs ,MDs and LMHPs
  • Develop metrics and run reports as needed to track provider compliance for quality and peer review processes
  • Conduct monthly reviews with staff members to review quality, production, attendance, and behavior status based on the KPI guidelines
  • Act as a level of escalation for any real or suspected violation of the compliance program, company policies and procedures, harassment, or other prohibited activities in accordance with the reporting policies of the company
  • Engage leadership in any potential derogatory issues identified during the licensing process and works in collaboration with practitioner to document/resolve the issue (e.g. National Provider Database);
  • Provide leadership with weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports identifying the process, concerns, and action plans for all applicants
  • Partner with credentialing staff to ensure compliance with re-credentialing and expirable requirements, including to meet third-party payor requirements for contracting and delegated credentialing;
  • Manage the preparation and maintenance of reports necessary to carry out the functions of the department; prepare periodic reports (KPI's) for management, as necessary or requested, to track strategic goal accomplishment;
  • Prepare the internal processes and protocols for NCQA accreditation.
  • Supervise staff, including licensing and credentialing specialists or others directly involved in the provider licensing and credentialing processes.

Skills & Experience that You'll Need to Bring
  • 5+ years' experience and knowledge of provider licensure, credentialing, and accreditation standards, including the functions, operation, and mission of the department
  • 2+ years' people management and function supervision experience
  • Strong knowledge base of Joint Commission and NCQA guidelines along with state licensing requirement standards
  • Self-starter and solutions orientation with excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, meet deadlines with accuracy and excellence
  • Demonstrated experience building an effective remote team
  • Excellent computer skills using MS Windows and other relevant employee database systems.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Healthcloud and/or other licensing/provider management systems strongly preferred

Total compensation for this role is market competitive, with a base salary range of $215,000 - $250,000 with eligibility for bonus and stock options, a 401k match, healthcare coverage, paid-time off, and a broad range of other benefits and perks. Peruse our benefits at Hazel Health Benefits .
