Job Summary

The Vice President for Student Services is the chief student affairs officer for the college and reports directly to the President. The Vice President provides vision and leadership for enrollment management including recruitment, admissions, and registration, as well the college's Student Services programs such as counseling, veterans' certification, financial aid, advising, and student success services. The Vice President is responsible for the oversight and direction of the College's athletic teams, The Green Jays. The Vice President collaborates closely with other Vice Presidents, administrative staff, and faculty to oversee the college's effectiveness in meeting students' needs.

Job Duties

  • 60% - Provides direct supervision and evaluation of the Dean of Students, Director of Admissions & Records, Director of Financial Aid, Director of Recruitment, Athletic Director, and Director of SGA and Student Activities Provides leadership in maintaining a student centered philosophy with a clear focus on successful student outcomes including: enrollment, retention, graduation, and post-completion success Provides leadership and guidance for the recruitment and retention of students; actively recruits for the College and works to promote retention and student success Ensure equitable, consistent, and convenient access to Student Servicesfor Students enrolled at all campuses, virtual, online, and off-campus locations Assumes leadership and responsibility for establishing an environment and culture which promotes respect for Students, faculty, and staff and recognizes initiative and excellence Develop, direct, and evaluate student programs and services that creates a welcoming, accepting, and supportive environment in support of a thriving and engaging student life on campus Serves as an advocate for Students and communicates their needs and makes recommendations to the college administration Supervises and coordinates the fulfillment of Student Services goals outlined in the strategic plan of the college Creates, assesses, updates, and implements a Strategic Enrollment Management Plan that is data informed and aligns with the mission and vision of the college and facilitates the development and implementation of a campus-wide retention plan - (Essential)
  • 25% - Works with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to collect, analyze, and effectively utilize institutional data to evaluate enrollment and retention trends; project student enrollment, and prepare appropriate reports to be used in strategic decision making to improve the delivery and effectiveness of student service programs Collaborates with the Vice President for Business Services and Physical Plant Director to ensure campus facilities support student engagement and learning Reviews, maintains, and evaluates Student Services budgets to support divisional and institutional goals and continuously evaluates the economic feasibility of Student Services to ensure that only those programs with appropriate priority in terms of need and demand are continued In collaboration with the Dean of Students, provides leadership for the student complaint and appeal procedures regarding student violations of the college regulations presented in the student handbook, as well directing college-wide activities related to student conduct and due-process, including, but not limited to, writing appropriate policies and procedures and conducting investigations and hearings on student judicial matters - (Essential)
  • 15% - Supports college activities and special events through attendance and/or participation Establishes and maintains positive community relations that contribute to the College's ability to fulfill its mission Represents the college in Tennessee Board of Regents activities and initiatives Participates in local, regional and state organizations and events to promote Jackson State Community College - (Marginal)

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Student Services
Three (3) years of supervisory and leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications

Community College experience
Demonstrated success in creating comprehensive, student-centered programs and services that increased enrollment/retention/graduation
Senior level experience in Student Services and enrollment management at or above the level of Director
Dual enrollment and early college experience
Experience in developing and managing departmental budgets
Experience with BANNER and SLATE
Experience with disability and learning assistance services
Experience with financial aid management

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Use interpersonal skills and makes sound judgments to decide how duties and responsibilities are completed amongst direct reports
Effective leadership skills that promote teamwork, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem solving
Collaborative approach to decision making that involves key stakeholders in the decision-making process
Strong communication (both written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a dynamic environment and handle multiple responsibilities with competing deadlines and/or priorities
Exercise independent judgment in developing and implementing creative solutions to changing conditions
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituents of the college
Knowledge of state and federal policies regarding financial aid, Title IX, NJCAA, FERPA, ADA, CLEARY Act

Pay Rate: $97,293 - $121,617. Annual salary depending on eligible experience which is defined by the current compensation plan.
