Position:Vice President - Business Services
Department:Business Services
Reports To: SVP/Chief Lending Officer
FLSA: Exempt
SUMMARY
Responsible for the corporate oversight and management of the Business Services Department. This encompasses various functions, not limited to, the development of Business products and services, sales and service for business members, staff development, operational efficiency, management of the business loan portfolio, ensuring portfolio growth and profitability, and maintaining asset quality. Additionally, supervises the business development program and administers important relationships related to commercial lending accounts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for overall management of the Business Services, including but not limited to interviewing, selecting, and hiring team members; scheduling, assigning, training, and directing work; evaluating performance; coaching, counseling, rewarding and disciplining team members; recommending team members for transfers, promotions, and terminations; strategic planning; actively participating as a member of the senior management team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures and actively manages all aspects of the business loan portfolios, including the development and ongoing review of credit union underwriting criteria.
  • Maintains and updates the Business Lending Policy, ensuring compliance across all activities.
  • Responsible for the Business Services Management responses for NCUA examinations as well as internal and external audits.
  • Oversees the work of Business Services Department team members.
  • Directs and supervises all Business Services functions within the credit union.
  • Manages the departments operational budget.
  • Develops, proposes, obtains approval, and implements strategic plans designed to meet the credit union's short- and long-term business lending objectives.
  • Assists Commercial Loan Officers with complicated accounts and guides new team members on credit policy and complex financing arrangements.
  • Oversees the business development functions.
  • Initiates contact with major business accounts to cultivate new relationships and potential clients.
  • Establishes and maintains continuous guidance on business lending policies and procedures.
  • Promotes new services to current clients and retains existing business by personal contacts.
  • Approves loans exceeding Commercial Loan Officer lending limitations.
  • Oversees the business deposit account practices and procedures.
  • Establishes and ensures the implementation of target goals for the department, monitoring to ensure increased loan production is achieved.
  • Oversees the hiring, promotions, transfers, terminations and changes in status of team members within the Business Services Department ensuring a well-trained and highly motivated staff.
  • Ensures compliance of all business lending policies, procedures, underwriting standards, applications, and disclosures with applicable laws and regulations, duly documented. Responsible for oversight and monitoring of the Business Services Loans and Deposits.
  • Prepares and delivers reports for management and Board of Directors as directed.
  • Develops and maintains prudent credit and risk management of the loan portfolio.
  • Conducts ongoing and periodic assessments of borrowers' financial condition throughout the life of the loans or lines of credit.
  • Reviews pricing surveys and recommends interest rate and/or product changes for relevant loan products, including promotional rates.
  • Ensures business lending functions comply with federal laws and regulations set forth by the National Credit Union Administration and other regulatory agencies.
  • Stays updated on industry changes and evolving trends in business lending, responding in a manner that sustains competitiveness.
  • Represents and promotes the credit union at external functions.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
  • Uses Integrity Coaching skills to routinely and effectively coach staff to meet personal, departmental, and organizational goals, including documenting and tracking progress and results.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by SVP/CLO.

Education:
Equivalent to a college degree (BS or BA in a relevant field).
Experience and Other Requirements:
  • Eight or more years of similar or related experience.
  • Must possess knowledge of NCUA, Federal and State Regulations as relates to commercial lending.
  • Must possess exceptional knowledge and understanding of financial institution commercial lending guidelines.
  • Must develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of Symitar System.
  • Must possess excellent underwriting skills for loan reviews.
  • Strong analytical and reasoning skills required.
  • Must possess the confidence and decisiveness to make sound judgments in the loan approval function.
  • Must possess the ability to maintain good working relationships with co-workers, Management, and Department Head Staff and various agency personnel.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to handle members in an assertive and tactful manner and be able to handle complex member inquiries.
  • Must be able to manage a number of priorities simultaneously, establish and meet deadlines, coordinate activities with other departments, and perform job with accuracy and attention to detail.

Computer Skills:
  • Must be proficient in use of Personal PC, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Must be proficient using the internet and e-mail.

Interpersonal Skills:
The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position. Work frequently involves contacts requiring considerable discussion of problems, material presentations, and resolving issues impacting departments or divisions.
