Veterinary Technician ITNPRC Veterinary Medicine

Location: Covington, LA

Summary

With general supervision, assists veterinarians and researchers in diagnostic, surgical and preventative procedures, as well as radiology, animal care, and medical treatments. Observes animals in assigned areas and reports abnormalities, sickness, or injury. Assists with postoperative care and monitors the condition of assigned animals. Maintains required records including data collection and entry. Assists with inventory of medical, pharmacy and sterile supplies. Provides non-surgical technical assistance to researchers as directed. Assists with scheduling and study planning. Performs related responsibilities as required. May be required to be on after hours call. Weekend and holiday work may be required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific cautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.

May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. If required to work during a closure, employee must provide accurate and current contact information and is responsible for maintaining communication with TNPRC. Failure to report to work when requested by supervisor or manager will result in disciplinary action as outlined by the Staff Handbook.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience as a Veterinary Technician

OR

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience as an Animal Care Technician and certification as an AALAS ALAT

OR

• High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience as an Animal Care technician

OR

• Graduation from a two-year Veterinary Technician program

OR

• Bachelor's degree in a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• AALAS ALAT certification
