Description of Services
- Candidate will be required to provide the sterilization services weekly, on or near the same day every week, preferably on Friday.
- Candidate will supply all controlled drugs (scheduled narcotics) as required for surgery.
- Communicate with Newton County personnel to confirm weekly surgery schedules prior to arrival.
- Preform pre-surgical physical exams on animals scheduled for surgery.
- Preform all necessary anesthesia induction and monitoring for surgeries.
- Candidate must be able to assist in performing a minimum of 25 spay/neuter surgeries in a single day.

- Assist in additional surgeries on shelter animals (i.e. cyst removal, enucleation, amputation, etc.) on an as-needed basis and as time allows, provided that, in the option of the Veterinarian, these procedures can be safely preformed in the shelter’s clinic with existing equipment. Such surgeries will require pre-approval by our veterinarian prior to schedule.
- Utilize Newton County’s ShelterBuddy software system (current system being used) to record notes relating to surgeries performed.
- Provide and Maintain all necessary date entry/record keeping and medical log forms.
- Transport controlled drugs needed for anesthesia/surgery from your facility to Newton
County on surgery days and keep all necessary records pertaining to this controlled drug inventory.
- Treat all animal kindly and humanely
- Treat Newton County employees and volunteers respectfully while on premises.
- Medications and drugs present in the shelter, which are the property of Newton County, may be utilized to treat animals presented for surgery by Candidate.
Qualifications
Skilled, Veterinary Surgeon, licensed in the State of Georgia.
Furnished Equipment and Services
Newton County Animal Services Provides the Following:
- A finalized surgery list submitted to the Candidate by 5:00 PM the day prior to surgery with up to 25 animals.
- All appropriate drugs, including all pain medications-excluding controlled substances.
- Cleaning supplies.
- Building maintenance.
- Maintenance and repair of all surgical equipment/machinery.
