Responsibilities of a Customer Service Representative
A customer service representative must be able to perform the following:
- Lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Handle urine, fecal, and blood samples.
- Computer literacy and ability to multitask across multiple platforms/programs.
- Bring a positive attitude and work in a team environment.
Duties include the following:
- Cheerfully greet clients whether they are engaging us over the phone or in person.
- Assist clients empathetically with their pet’s needs.
- Answer phones politely, professionally, and promptly.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance; adhere to dress code in Employee Handbook.
- Schedule and confirm appointments according to hospital guidelines.
- Payment processing (web-based applications, hard-wired credit card machines, checks, cash).
- Ability to help clients with basic husbandry questions; exercise knowledge of parasite prevention products and nutritional supplements/diets; vaccination requirements and schedules; staying well-versed in hospital medical recommendations.
- Fill prescriptions as ordered by the doctor. Review prescriptions with the owner and address any questions/concerns before the client leaves the hospital.
- Accurate record keeping for patient’s medical records.
- Obtain medical records from other hospitals/rescues/shelters/etc. and ability to read medical records as presented to determine needs for patients.
- Computer use: ability to learn new programs, technology, and literacy with accomplishing tasks like computer backups and updates.
- Liaison between clients and doctors/technicians.
- Retrieve and distribute mail daily.
- Attend staff meetings; if absent read the minutes.
- Accept and process fecal and urine samples presented by clients for their pets.
- Cleaning up urine, fecal, and other accidents in the waiting room.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace at the front desk; also, ensuring that the waiting area is clean and presentable to clients at all times.
- Maintaining the dog walk area by removing any feces and emptying the trash bin.
- During inclement weather, ensuring that the walkways are safe for clients and pets by shoveling/sweeping and putting down pet-safe snow melt as needed.
- Ability to stay current and up to date on guidelines and protocols.
- Know, understand, and obtain certifications where indicated and as required by hospital guidelines (e.g. AAHA, Fear Free, Cat Friendly).

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
