Veteran Peer Recovery Support

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in Quick Response Team outreach and follow up with Veterans following overdose.
  • Support Veteran's in developing and maintaining a support network in the recovery community, building life skills, and making linkages within other community support agencies specific to veterans.
  • Support and assist Veteran's in daily decision making and resolution of minor problems.
  • Engage Veterans in developing healthy relationships through social activities.
  • Accompany veterans to community support meetings.
  • Participates in meetings of community groups to advocate for veteran's needs, leading recovery dialogs / self-help sessions with veterans. These meetings may include CIT Steering Committee, Greene County Suicide Prevention Coalition, Greene County QRT and Drug Free Coalition, Veteran's Court and the Xenia Health & Justice TEAM meeting.
  • Assist Veteran's with identifying and effectively responding to or avoiding identified precursors or triggers that result in function impairments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High School Diploma
  • Experience: Veteran of the Armed Forces, Previous experience with chemically dependent clients in various settings a plus.
  • Certification: CPR; First Aid; De-escalation; Medication Monitoring, Narcan training, and
  • Peer Recovery Supporter.
  • Other: Valid Driver's License, Current Automobile Insurance, Demonstrated
  • Competencies working with substance abuse.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Knowledge of: Safety rules and procedures, Agency policies and procedures, Greene County area and resources, daily living tasks and skills, documentation requirements.

Skills: Operating basic household appliances and tools; excellent interpersonal skills, including directing and demonstrating activities of daily living, i.e. Cleaning, laundry.

Abilities: Lifting up to 25 pounds, standing, bending, stooping, writing legibly or use of computer, ability to see, hear, read, and communicate information clearly, ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions related to persons with disabilities.
