Vet Tech Assistant

The Veterinary Emergency Hospital of Midlothian (VEHM) is a busy, privately-owned, 24/7 small animal ER. We pride ourselves in offering a high level of efficient, progressive, and compassionate patient care with exemplary customer service. We currently have a full staff of doctors and we are in the process of expanding to a second location which will be urgent care with limited hours in Arlington.

We are currently hiring to expand our veterinary support team at the ER as well as staffing for our second location prior to opening.

We seek to find highly skilled and motivated veterinary technician assistants. TA’s collaborate closely with our team, patients, and clients with the goal to provide compassionate care in a crisis. TA’s fill an essential role helping provide patients care. The care taking tasks are numerous, such as restraining, walking, feeding, changing litterboxes, assisting with treatments, as well as cleaning, disinfecting equipment, kennels, and the hospital. Due the busy environment of the ER and dealing with critical patients, candidates are required to have experience. Please review requirments.

We have a variety of shifts available for full-time, part-time, and relief positions. We may require some weekends and holidays to ensure seamless patient care and client support.

High School Diploma or GED

2 years veterinary experience or animal care

Demonstrate animal restraint techniques

Knowledge of basic animal wellness, vaccines, routine procedures, and common diseases

Enjoy working in a fast-paced environment

Ability to multitask and provide compassionate customer service

Ability to remain calm and compassionate during critical situations

WORK REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work in awkward positions that include reaching, bending, sitting, standing, and walking for an extended period of time. Required to lift up to forty (40) pounds. Employees will be expected to request assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 40 pounds.

• Radiation exposure
• Possible exposure to gas sterilization using ethylene oxide
• Exposure to hazardous associated with infected animals and contagious diseases
• Exposure to hazardous medications, controlled substances, and disinfectants
• Exposures to unpleasant odors and noises
• Exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches, and animal bodily fluids
