This is a Remote position. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the ongoing digital transformation of a global language learning company and deliver powerful and engaging user experiences that will make a difference to the lives of hundreds of thousands of language learners all over the world.
Reporting to the SVP Customer Experience, the UX/UI Designer will lead all aspects of user experience and user interface design for our online learning platforms. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues across product, engineering, learning experience, data & analytics and customer support to design and deliver user experiences that engage learners and improve outcomes for our learners and corporate clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- User research: Conduct user research, including interviews, surveys, and observations to understand the needs, preferences, and pain points of the intended audience.
- Learning Experience design collaboration: work closely with the Learning Experience (LX) team and subject matter experts to understand learning objectives and instructional content. Translate instructional goals into user-friendly and effective interface designs.
- Information architecture: Organize content and structure information in a logical and user-friendly way. Develop sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to illustrate and improve the layout of the navigation of the learning platforms.
- User interface (UI) design: design visually appealing and cohesive user interfaces that align with the Berlitz brand guidelines and design system and enhance the learning experience. Create graphics, icons, and other visual elements to support instructional delivery.
- Usability testing: plan and conduct usability testing to identify areas for improvement in the user experience. Analyze test results and iterate on designs based on user feedback.
- Responsive design: ensure learning platforms are responsive and work seamlessly across devices and screen sizes.
- Accessibility: ensure online learning platforms and eLearning experiences comply with accessibility standards to accommodate learners with diverse needs.
- Product development: Participate in roadmap planning with the Product team. Support development, QA, and launch of new products and feature improvements.
Educational background:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Design or related field (or equivalent experience)
- UX Design Certification
Key Skills and Competencies
- UX design skills: proficiency in user-centered design principles, information architecture, interaction design, design systems, and prototyping tools such as Figma, Zeplin and Adobe Creative Suite
- Instructional design: an understanding of learning experience design principles and the ability to align UX design with learning objectives and content delivery.
- Visual design: strong visual design skills, including the ability to create aesthetically pleasing and cohesive user interfaces.
- User research and usability testing: experience planning, conducting and analyzing user research and usability testing to understand user needs and pain points, gather feedback and improve designs.
- Responsive design and technical proficiency: understanding of responsive design principles to ensure a consistent user experience across different devices and screen sizes, and familiarity with web development technologies (including HTML and CSS).
- Accessibility knowledge: familiarity with accessibility standards, including WCAG and ISO, and the ability to design and implement accessible eLearning experiences.
- Collaboration and Communication: effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and subject matter experts, including a willingness to engage with global stakeholders across multiple time zones.
- Self-motivated: detail-oriented, self-organized and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote work environment.

Experience
- UX/UI design experience: 5+ years UX/UI design experience for web applications, preferably with a focus on eLearning platforms or within the EdTech industry. Language learning experience a plus.
- Portfolio: strong portfolio showcasing previous eLearning UX/UI design projects, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a user-centric approach.
- Industry knowledge: familiarity with eLearning and online training trends, educational technology and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the online language learning space
- Project management: experience managing design projects, including timelines and deliverables.
- Agile: experience working in an Agile environment, including collaborating with Product Managers and technical/development teams
- Continuous learning: Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry best practices, tools, and technologies.
