Severn offers paid personal leave and sick leave. Full-time employees are eligible to earn vacation time.
Additionally, Severn closes for two, two-week periods during the year. These are Winter Break and Spring Break. (Full-time employees are required to work one of those four weeks.)Tuition Remission
Each full-time faculty and staff member is eligible for 50 percent tuition remission for children admitted to the School.New Faculty Support
Our 122 full- and part-time faculty members allow for the small 10-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and the average class size of 14. New faculty are enrolled in a mentoring program that assists them in acclimating to our community as well as allowing time for reflection on issues related to being a teacher. All employees are supported by the appropriate division head, the academic dean, as well as department chairs and peer mentors.Professional Development
Faculty are encouraged to pursue professional development. Severn School assists employees in paying 75 percent of tuition costs for education which maintains or improves skills required for the employee’s current position or meets express requirements imposed by the School as a condition of employment.

General Summary: Severn School is searching for a full time Upper School Physics teacher to begin in August of 2024.
Essential Functions: Instruction at Severn starts with relationships and emphasizes the importance of understanding, connections, and teamwork in order to create a learning environment that promotes both achievement and inclusivity. The Severn faculty is a community of learners committed to ongoing professional development, reflection, collaboration, and collegiality, and a premium is placed on the development and employment of intentional teaching, learning, and assessment methods. Severn believes that all aspects of a student’s experience, including but not limited to leadership training, service, clubs, the advisory program, athletics, and the arts, are necessary components of a Severn education. Faculty participation in these pursuits beyond the classroom reflects the collective commitment to living the school’s deep-rooted mission, which promises that students are known and valued.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate can teach multiple levels of Upper School Physics, will have a strong educational background with a degree in a related field, and will possess a steadfast commitment to the life of the school beyond the classroom. Athletic coaching experience and previous secondary school teaching experience are preferred but not required.
