McDonogh School is looking for a dynamic educator that has the ability to teach various levels of Physics, including ninth-grade Physics classes. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a genuine interest in STEM, embrace project-based learning, and excel in teaching 21st century skills. Additionally, there is the possibility that the responsibilities of this role may extend to teaching in the broader science department, covering subjects such as engineering, biology, chemistry, or other related disciplines.
Essential Functions
- Teaching and Curriculum Development
- Inspire, engage, and support students in the study of science, especially physics
- Value, promote, and develop the importance of effort and grit in students’ academic achievement; celebrating students’ effort and their incremental increases in achievement

- Interdisciplinary Collaboration
- Work closely with colleagues teaching the same courses to ensure the same content coverage and ensure similar student experiences
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the science department and with members of the math, computer science, and/or engineering departments
- Become an active member of the McDonogh community by participating in school activities inside and outside of the science department
- Professional Growth and Contributions
- Mentor a small group of students as an advisor in an advisory program as well as students inside the science classroom
- Overtly supporting and acting in accordance with the school's mission
- Exhibit professional standards of presentation, punctuality, professional courtesy, and discretion
- Respond to the needs of the School, including but not limited to, service learning, advisory programs, coaching, assigned supervision, and other areas as determined by the Head of the Upper School
- Use professional growth opportunities to continually grow as a science educator, including but not limited to, observing classes taught by colleagues both within and outside of the science department
Master’s Degree (preferred, but not required).
Additional Experience
- Prior experience teaching physics is preferred
- Experience teaching in a neurodiverse environment (preferred, but not required)
- Prior experience working in a student-centered learning environment, with practical experience with problem-based and project-based learning is preferred

Working Conditions
Evening and weekend hours may be required from time to time. Lifting and carrying of equipment is not typical, but may be required on rare occasions. Lifting up to 25 pounds. Other working conditions include climbing stairs, walking around campus, sitting, standing, and significant computer use including extensive close use of a computer monitor. Reaching, grasping.
