Job Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Underwriting Manager who can effectively lead our Personal Lines Underwriting Team. We are seeking someone who has exceptional technical underwriting skills and is capable of driving profitable growth. The ideal candidate will have ample experience working in the insurance industry in the Northeast region, with a strong focus on Personal Lines Property Insurance. As an Underwriting Manager, you'll be working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, fostering strong relationships to improve underwriting practices and procedures.
This is a remote position operating under EST business hours.
What you will do:
- Lead a team of market-facing underwriters. Managing, guiding, and mentoring the Underwriting Team in technical and professional skills and fostering an engaged learning environment.
- Be responsible for all aspects of team management, including performance standards, evaluations, management, and compensation recommendations.
- Be responsible for Quality Assurance processes.
- Assure the integrity of the business meets the department's guidelines and standards.
- Elevate organizational goals and bring fresh ideas to current processes and procedures.
- Demonstrate sophisticated underwriting skills and abilities to handle complex underwriting inquiries and remain current on industry trends.
- Provide recommendations on underwriting philosophies and guidelines for risk assessment and selection.
- Identify market trends and coverage exposures that may impact business results. Work with actuarial and senior management to identify underwriting strategies.
- Enforce best practices and ensure employees perform accordingly, in accordance with policies and procedures. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and DOI laws and guidelines in all states.
- Ensure applications are handled promptly and accurately and according to underwriting guidelines as well as state and federal legislation and may also underwrite policies.
- Participate in special projects, committees, and underwriting direction.
- Manage relationships with producers by conducting line of business, book of business, class, and segment analysis to ensure profitability and growth.
- Manage portfolio and profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans.
- Provide prompt, accurate, and courteous support service to clients and coworkers.
- Collaborate with department members to deliver exceptional customer service and achieve client satisfaction.
- Train, develop, and mentor other members of the Underwriting Team.
What you will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in underwriting, risk management, business, accounting, or a related field.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in underwriting; experience in P&C underwriting in the northeast region.
- 3 to 5 years of leadership experience (required).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products.
- Experience with ImageRight (preferred).
- Skills in enhancing and optimizing processes for greater efficiency.
- Proficiency in technology delivery and ability to partner with the IT team on enhancement and project deliveries.
- Ability to be team oriented, specifically towards department goals.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be a self-starter and handle difficult situations via the telephone.
- Customer Service background, specifically towards courtesy and professionalism.
- Ability to handle pressure situations calmly.
