Job Summary

Work directly with the Director, Market Research & VP, Strategy to define and execute a comprehensive research strategy and distill and communicate insights across our leadership teams. Responsible for independently solving complex business challenges by leveraging custom research and strategic insights solutions as inputs to guide decisions and recommend courses of action that significantly contribute to business objectives and our strategy. Partner with leaders across our Commercial Lines, Personal, Excess & Surplus lines and other business units to identify key custom research needs, scope and prioritize research efforts, and effective socialize actionable learnings across the organization. Remain current with advanced and innovative research methods that will build on our currently established foundational initiatives like Brand Health Tracking, Relationship Surveys, etc.

Essential Functions

  • Advance the custom Market Research infrastructure by overseeing platforms, ensuring efficient and quality execution, proactively recommending enhancements to our research capabilities to deepen our insights, and provide more actionable outputs.
  • Identify and leverage individual strengths of the research team and recommend professional development opportunities to leadership that will enable the Strategy and Insights team to keep a pulse on emerging trends, headwinds, and tailwinds that impact our business.
  • Independently develop relationships with business partners to identify, prioritize, and schedule custom research projects that deliver insight required for meeting key business objectives.
  • Scale our ability to effectively understand our customers, agents, and the broader insurance categories we operate in through designing, building, and deploying a research sampling strategy that includes customer lists, panels, and look-a-like modeling.
  • Challenge the status quo and tackle complex business challenges to introduce new solutions or methods related to concept testing, forecasting, segmentation, feature prioritization and pricing.
  • Partner with Marketing, Experience, Innovation and Strategy (MXIS) teams to integrate research and insight into Customer Experience (CX), Design, User Experience (UX), Marketing and Strategy related initiatives.
  • Work with Market Research Project Leader to integrate large-scale, innovative research projects with ongoing research, metrics and reporting efforts and provide actionable insight and recommendations to our leadership and business partners.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence (BI), Advanced Analytics and Information Technology (IT) to discover and develop ways to create a holistic, efficient integration of data that enables more insight into complex business dynamics.
  • Manage external research vendors and platforms, ensuring efficient utilization of budget, advancing our research capabilities, and delivering quality insights.
  • Effectively communicate and present research insights and implications to business leaders across the organization in a concise and professional manner.
  • Must be able to drive an automobile to travel. Car travel represents approximately 5% of employee’s time and a valid driver’s license.

Education and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Statistics, Psychology, Sociology preferred.
  • Certifications in Market Research, UX Research, Digital Marketing, Design Thinking a plus.
  • 6+ years working in a Market Research role on either the vendor or corporate side.
  • Insurance industry experience a plus.
  • Expert knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research methods
  • Expert level experience in designing primary research including sample design, survey/discussion guide creation, analytical plans.
  • Working knowledge of research platforms such as Forsta, DScout, Remesh, Qualtrics.
  • Strong knowledge of statistics and their application within research including descriptive statistics, tests of significance and sampling considerations (probability/non-probability sampling, sampling error, etc.)
  • Experience partnering with business intelligence and / or advanced analytics experts to infuse primary research into predictive models, segmentation schemes and forecasts.
  • Extensive experience designing research strategies to help solve business problems.
  • Proven ability to navigate ambiguous situations, demonstrate creative problem-solving skills and forge strong and effective relationships with business partners.
  • Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and be able to drive an automobile.
     

Salary range:  $103,400 - $170,900.  The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
