Underwriting Assistant

SUMMARY

Responsible for providing support and assistance to underwriting staff including collecting data and organizing reports, performing administrative duties regarding new and renewal accounts, and all other duties as delegated by Underwriter.  Provides customer service and clerical support to the Underwriting department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

   Updates spreadsheets and creates management reports in accordance with the office procedures;

   Maintains monthly activity log and clears accounts for underwriters' review;

   Processes policies, endorsements, audits, premium invoices and other documents in a timely and accurate manner;

   Enters new business and renewal submissions into agency management system;

   Creates files, conducts filing and ensures pulling and purging of files;

   Sorts and collates incoming faxes and emails, opens mail, sends outgoing mail;

   Answers telephone and route calls to others; operates fax machines and copiers;

   Responds effectively to inquiries, under the direction of an underwriter, within designated level of authority;

   Orders office supplies and provides clerical support to the Underwriting Department;

   Complies with agency management system data standards and data integrity (enters and maintains complete and accurate information);

   Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience

Related work experience and knowledge of insurance industry preferred 

Requires a valid insurance license

SKILLS

Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

Good customer service skills, including telephone and listening skills

Good problem solving and time management skills

Ability to work within a team and to foster teamwork 

Strong planning, organizational and prioritization skills

Intermediate typing skills (30-35 wpm)

Proficient in Microsoft Office products
