Transportation Operations - Dispatcher
This position has responsibility for managing several aspects of the day to day logistics coordination needs of customers. This role will involve communicating with drivers, carriers, vendors, and customers to provide the most cost effective and efficient services.
Responsibilities
- Develop and build strong working relations with drivers, customers, and related parties
- Plan daily and weekly route schedules to minimize empty miles keeping drivers moving efficiently.
- Perform daily tasks such as route planning, rate negotiation, tracking information, dispatching drivers, reviewing hours of service, scheduling service calls, and follow-up on required items
- Understand the urgency required by the customer and apply to daily tasks
- Exhibit good judgment and the ability to make quick decisions in support of the workload demands
- Strong focus on providing exceptional customer service when dealing with vendors and customers
- May set pick up and drop off appointments directly with the customer and vendors
- Provide other support as required to the Logistics Team
Qualifications (Education/Training, Skills and Experience)
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Problem solving skills and ability to react to last minute route changes is key
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills
- Above average desktop computer skills with experience in MS Office Suite and Electronic Logging Device (ELD) TMS System knowledge a plus
- Strong, professional communication and interpersonal skills
Experience
- 1-2 years, with preferably some logistics and/or transportation industry experience
- 1-2 years in a business environment with customer support
- Experience in managing truck fleet
- Willing to train the right person!
