General Job Description: Position is responsible for managing the school bus transportation department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform all duties of a bus driver as needed
- See that all vehicles and transportation operations conform with all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation
- Recommend bus routes and schedules to meet the needs of the students as well as the district
- Assign qualified drivers to approved bus routes and special bus trips beyond the regular routes
- Advise superintendent on road hazards for decision on school delay or closure during inclement weather
- Prepare and submit transportation reports and maintain all necessary records
- Assist in preparation with specification and bid conditions for all items requiring such bids
- Advise on the purchase of new equipment including buses
- Order and receive all necessary supplies
- Plan work schedules and arrange for substitutes when necessary
- Verify transportation employee time records
- Assist with interviewing, screening and recommending employment of all transportation personnel
- Instruct new transportation employees in performing their assigned tasks
- Attend approved training classes and workshops
- Investigate and report on accidents involving District vehicles to the superintendent
- Work with building principals involving disciplinary matters. Building principals are responsible for student disciplinary action
- Adhere to district policy, local regulations and OSPI rules and regulations
- Other duties as assigned by superintendent
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of the ridership program Student Transportation Allocation Reporting System (STARS)
- Must be computer knowledgeable
- Must be organized and able to multitask
- Ability to supervise and evaluate all transportation staff
- Required to have a valid driver's license
- CDL license Required
Terms of Employment:
- 8 hours per day, 190 days per year, pay based on experience
- Exempt non-union position
- Must pass a valid Washington State background check and FBI fingerprint review
