Purpose of Job:
This role will be responsible for the day-to-day management of all global inbound and outbound related transportation functions for Interstate Batteries (IB) and Retail Acquisition and Development (RAD), its suppliers, and customers.
Primary focus will be the coordination of all logistics activities associated with supplier and customer orders. This includes but is not limited to the arranging of inbound (ocean, drayage, transload, and full truckload), obtaining and negotiating transportation bids/quotes, manage delivery schedules, issue resolutions, release, and expedite cargo, reconciliations, customs clearance, working directly with customers and suppliers.
The ideal candidate will bring exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail to ensure the smooth flow of products from origin to destination. Your ability to be proactive, analyze data and implement logistics strategies will be key to driving cost-effective and streamlined operations.
Job Components:
- Coordinate and work closely with international freight forwarders, carriers, origin/destination management partners, customs brokers to ensure proper communication and execution for inbound shipments into the US and foreign countries.
- Proactively monitor all shipments during transit to ensure timely delivery and work with freight forwarders/carriers to mitigate exceptions.
- Communicate information about shipping quotes, costs, shipment status, ETA and delivery confirmation to customers and internal stakeholders (purchasing, sales teams, distribution centers, etc..). Act as the primary liaison between carriers and all stakeholders.
- Maintain, develop, and monitor monthly scorecards (service, cost, transit time) to report against performance expectations.
- Schedule and track inbound and outbound shipments according to customers' requirements, ensuring on-time deliveries.
- Create/review import/export related shipping documents, maintain records and processes.
- Obtain and negotiate rates with service providers (FF, carriers, etc.) through request for proposals(s) (RFPs) and miscellaneous spot quotes.
- Responsible for ensuring routes are efficient, cost-effective, and meet organizational and customer expectations.
- Conduct analysis to determine optimal transportation solutions as needed to meet customer requirements and minimize costs.
- Support the development and day to day management of freight payment auditing and solutions.
- Collaborate with leadership on developing and implementing strategic logistical plans to optimize the movement of goods from suppliers to customers.
- Build and maintain cross functional and business relationships, provide a high level of customer service to our internal and external customers, participate in continuous process improvement initiatives to bring solutions to customer needs, as well as work to ensure flawless execution and supply chain metrics are met.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify, evaluate, quantify opportunities for operational enhancements and implement solutions to reduce costs and improve efficiency, i.e., KPIs and metrics.
- Take on additional duties and responsibilities, as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, engineering, business, or related field strongly preferred.
- 2+ years of experience in global transportation or similar supply chain role.
- Ability to manage data and develop concepts and information. (strong analytical skills).
- Knowledge in SAP, Transportation Management Systems, Analytical tools (i.e., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills (including but not limited to VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, charts, etc...)
- Flexible and able to work in a rapidly changing environment.
- Detailed and deadline-orientated to meet regular and periodic needs of the business for accurate and timely information.
- Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with logistics providers.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve transportation issues.
- Team oriented and able to work with all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain current performance measures and cost scorecards.
- Measure and report on transportation spend and supplier performance.
- Responsible for choosing, managing, and maintaining transportation services for IB/RAD network.
- Perform RFPs for miscellaneous IB/RAD requests (obtain freight quotes and contract preparation).
- Ensure we are utilizing the most efficient and effective cost-effective carrier and route guide selections.
- Develop routing instructions for drop ship vendors as needed.
- Participate in meetings with Procurement, Demand Planning, and Inventory Management for forecast planning and bid preparation.
- Audit freight bills for accuracy.
- Maintain all clerical work necessary for position, filing, invoicing, updating rates, reporting, audits, and data entry.
