WSP is currently initiating a search for a Transportation Planning Lead for our Nashville, TN office. Be involved in projects with our Planning Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This individual will lead the planning and environment team, manage projects and tasks, mentor staff, build and maintain client relationships, and participate in business development activities to help achieve the sales, revenue, and project delivery goals of the Tennessee planning and environment groups.
Your ImpactCandidates should demonstrate experience in Nashville or a comparable major metropolitan transportation market, leading and delivering work tasks for transportation projects and studies including data collection, research, and documentation contributing to the development of statewide, regional, and local transportation plans, corridor plans, transit plans and studies, multi-modal feasibility studies (bike, pedestrian, transit), managed lanes feasibility studies, planning reports, NEPA documents, urban design and land use planning, policy documentation and research, and other analyses. Demonstrated experience as a pursuit team leader and contributions to proposal and business development is also desired. Day to day work will require management of project financials, department leadership, project team leadership, and delivery of transportation projects and tasks, and interaction and collaboration with the Tennessee Planning and Environment team, the Tennessee Office leadership team, governmental agencies, contractors, the public and other WSP personnel. The successful candidate must be a team player and a self-starter, and demonstrate strong analytical, communication, collaboration, technical, supervisory, and business skills. Ability and interest in mentoring and managing younger staff is a must.
- Lead and further develop the Planning practice in Tennessee.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients, potential clients, and partner firms to support business development activities.
- Manage projects and tasks, including staffing, financials, and quality reviews.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data (demographic, economic, physical, etc.) and summarize it in written format and in tables, charts, and maps.
- Prepare, edit, format, and produce technical reports and displays.
- Coordinate and/or participate in the development and execution of stakeholder and public involvement activities associated with planning projects.
- Develop strong working relationships with clients, potential clients, and partner firms to support business development activities.
- Mentor and supervise junior staff.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Engineering or a related discipline
- 12+ years of progressively responsible relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience managing roadway and transit NEPA studies
- Highly developed project management skills
- Proven capabilities in client management, development, and project pursuits
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work as part of a team, work cross-functionally, and think critically and strategically
- Familiarity with Tennessee Transportation Planning issues
- Familiarity with Tennessee Department of Transportation planning and environmental procedures as well as those of local municipalities
- Ability to effectively present and communicate ideas orally and in written form
- Critical, strategic, and creative thinking skills
- Strong ability to collaborate with individuals and teams
- Computer skills (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS)
- Ability to gather and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports
- Understanding of project administration and management
- Ability to travel as needed
