TITLE: Assistant Transportation Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. College coursework and/or degree preferred.
- Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, local laws, codes, including laws regulating pupil transportation, CDL drivers and vehicles, and laws specific to students with special needs.
- Possession of or will (within a pre-determined period of time) obtain CDL, school bus driver certification, behind the wheel training certification, ODE classroom training certification, 3rd party testing certificate and CORE Certification.
- Self-starter with proven analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative working relationships with the public, students, administrators, staff, contractors, consultants, and public agencies.
- Ability to remain focused and calm in stressful/chaotic situations.
- Practices exceptional skills in leading, coaching, motivating, and developing staff, while maintaining confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the pupil transportation industry including positions of progressively increasing responsibility, or a combination of experience, training, and education in a similar industry coupled with experience in pupil transportation.
Excellent leadership skills as demonstrated by excellent attendance, work ethic, and job performance.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Intermediate to advanced technology skills providing the ability to enter, organize, and retrieve information.
Knowledge of spreadsheets and software used in pupil transportation.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating the work of all staff in the Transportation Department in accordance with District policy and scope of job description.
Works under the immediate supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.
Plans, organizes and leads, in coordination with the Transportation Supervisor, the route planning and implementation of efficient transportation for students with special needs or special circumstances. Maintains all necessary records for these students in compliance with school district needs and legal requirements. Works closely with state approved transportation contractors to ensure efficient and timely service for students.
Assists in the oversight of the daily work activities of all drivers of special needs and special circumstance students. Oversees the training of drivers on special equipment and student management to ensure the safe operation of buses and safe transportation of students.
Assists in maintaining safety standards to conform with state and insurance regulations. Assists in developing a program of safety.
Collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.g other administrators, public agencies,parents, transportation regulation agencies, vendors, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and/or maintaining services and programs.
Assists Transportation Supervisor in planning all department meetings and inservices.
Assesses and responds to incidents, accidents, complaints, etc. during and after standard hours to resolve immediate safety concerns. Processes all documentation for incidents and accidents.
In the absence of the Transportation Supervisor, acts as liaison with parents, principals, school staff, and all bus drivers for complaints, student discipline problems, and special requests.
Works with Transportation Supervisor to advise administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or school delays.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. bid specifications, correspondence, reports, procedures, work instructions, etc.)
Attends professional growth activities to maintain and/or develop innovative transportation practices.
