Job Description
Coppice Commodities, based in Portland, OR, is seeking a full-time Trader Assistant.
The primary duties of the Trader Assistant will be:
Entering and maintaining sales orders, purchase orders and contracts
• Auditing orders for accuracy
• Coordinating deliveries
• Sourcing and pricing change order material for existing contracts
• Providing Traders with order tracking support
• Assisting in inventory management
• Gathering freight rates
• Updating reports, documentation, and price lists as needed
Qualifications
• Experience with lumber/building materials
• Logistics experience
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with trading platforms is a plus
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively
• Strong attention to detail
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university plus multiple years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years as international logistics manager and understanding of international and domestic maritime regulations.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees, vendors, and the general public. Ability to write effective communication in various mediums using original or innovative techniques or style.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, exchange rates, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
Computer Skills
Job requires specialized computer skills. Must be adept at using various applications including database, spreadsheet, report writing, project management, graphics, word processing, presentation creation/editing, communicate by e-mail and use scheduling software.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Working Conditions
May require work hours in excess of 8 hours per day or 5 days per week. Must be willing to work in the evening, early morning, and weekend if/when needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
