Job description

Under general direction of Office Chief for Transportation Planning, a Supervising Transportation Planner, the incumbent plans, implements and manages the District 12 Transit & Rail Planning Program (Program). This program includes development, implementation, external outreach, internal coordination, and reporting in alignment with the State's objectives, goals, and vision for making public transit and rail a priority. The incumbent is responsible for assessing needs, establishing workplans, and developing and maintaining partnerships. The incumbent leads the district's transit and Rail Planning development efforts including working with CalSTA, Caltrans headquarters, neighboring districts, D12 divisions, transit and rail agencies, local and regional governments, federal government, community organizations, advocacy groups, and private stakeholders. The incumbent adheres to Caltrans policy and directives, ensures the transit and Rail Planning Program incorporates equity and robust engagement with disadvantaged communities. The work requires strong leadership, communication, partnership, and strategic thinking skills, as well as a deep commitment to the Department's strategic vision, mission, values, and goals, and to advance equity through all efforts.

Working Conditions
Position located in Santa Ana, Orange County
Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.
While at their base of operation, the incumbent will work in a climate-controlled office under natural and artificial lighting at workstations, within shared cubicles or other workspaces. Employees may also be required to travel and work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, and/ or varying weather conditions, including wind, as well as extreme heat and cold. Statewide travel may be required.
This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. Caltrans supports telework, recognizing that in-person attendance may be required based on operational needs. Employees are expected to be able to report to their worksites with minimum notification if an urgent need arises. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. All commute expenses to the headquartered location will be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
