First named Houston County Group Homes, the 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation began as a grass roots effort by concerned parents who sought an alternative to sending their loved ones with disabilities to state institutions or keeping them out of the public eye. Training Specialist

Job Summary:

The Training Specialist, under the direction of the Executive Director, will be required to assess current training and development systems to align with 245D Licensing. This role will also develop new training programs, administer all PBS training, develop and track training requirements and schedules for all agency employees.  May be required to conduct research to identify specific staff training needs.

Qualifications & Skills:

            Required:

    • BA/BS degree in Human Services field or Organizational Development
    • 5-7 years working in the field of disabilities
    • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory and differentiated instructional methods
    • Experience developing goals and outcomes
    • Complete integrity, honesty, and confidentiality
    • Ability to work with time-sensitive issues
    • Outstanding decision-making skills and response to high pressure situations
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite
    • Grant Writing experience preferred

Role Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Identify with, share in, and display a commitment to the vision, mission, core values, and core virtues of ABLE, Inc.
  • Collaborate across the entire organization to build an environment of collective responsibility and accountability.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and facilitate impactful training and education for the entire organization.
  • Assess training needs, consult with internal department leaders and provide recommendations on training development and priorities.
  • Work with schedulers to create and maintain yearly training calendar.
  • Deliver training programs as appropriate to role or identify alternative resource as needed for primary facilitation or as back up for any recurring programs.
  • Coordinates recurring training programs and supports other identified and prioritized training programs to assure quality across the agency.
  • Oversee direct care staff onboarding program and ongoing quality assurance of all essential functions of the direct care roles.
  • Maintain training records and follow up with participants and leadership as needed for compliance.
  • Assist with Grant Writing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

People Supported:

  • Advocates for appropriate training to effectively care for Persons Supported
  • Provides Direct Care on an as needed basis to maintain knowledge of Person Supported needs.
  • Will participate in On Call Rotation.

Financial/Budgeting:

  • Develops and monitors Agency Training Budget.
  • Plans and participates in agency functions and fundraising events.

 

Continuing Education:

  • Maintains current certification in Positive Behavioral Supports (PBS), First Aid and Trained Medication Aide (TMA).
  • Attends conferences/workshops as needed to further enhance the skills necessary to provide exceptional training to staff.

  • Excellent communication (verbal, written, and presentation skills).
