POSITION TITLE: Trainer & Placement Specialist

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

STARTING WAGE: $25.00

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is a dual position involving training and placement for employment. This role will be the point of contact for a team of Employment Counselors to refer clients to for job readiness, career/education exploration, resume development, interview practice and placement. The training aspect of this role will include providing group and/or 1:1 instruction on topics like career exploration, job seeking skills and connecting with education providers. The placement aspect of this role includes exploring labor market tools with participants helping them understand career and employment trends and good individual fit. Placement tasks also involves engaging local employers to better understand their needs and hiring practices to inform instruction, helping students/job seekers secure job interviews, paid internships or direct employment in their field of interest. In order to successfully fulfill this dual position, this role must build and maintain strong relationships with program participants, staff, employers, and community partners. This person must have/develop strong knowledge of career pathways, labor market trends/demands, career assessment and workforce development. Program goals and structures change frequently – with corresponding changes in job duties during the funding year. Effective, clear and proactive communication is required as is ongoing flexibility in sharing and adapting roles as program needs arise. This position requires meeting clients in various places in the community to work in person as well as in the office therefore a car and driver’s license is required. Bi-lingual in Somali, Spanish, or Russian desired.


POSTION REQUIREMENTS

  1. 2-year degree preferred but will accept successful experience the same level of positive experience delivering training to adults and/or doing community outreach/recruitment in-lieu of education.
  2. Demonstrated experience delivering presentations in both virtual and in-person settings using methods that are culturally responsive and adaptive to different learning styles/modalities is greatly valued.
  3. Strong relationship building skills with local employers.
  4. High comfort level with using labor market tools, as well as coaching in career laddering and industry job growth.
  5. Skill in written and oral communication
  6. Ability to work effectively with others.
  7. Skill in teaching/coaching techniques
  8. Efficient organizational and planning skills
  9. Effective time management and ability to prioritize work.
  10. Ability and willingness to respond constructively to rapid change.
  11. Ability to lead by example and to mentor and guide others.
  12. Computer proficiency (including Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases)
  13. Must have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, or access to reliable transportation.
  14. Must be flexible with travel within the metro area and able to move between Hired offices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Able to stand and/or sit for extended periods. Go to community-based events and deliver presentations and network in those environments. Perform computer and data entry functions. Lifting requirements may include occasional lifting to 20 pounds. Additional physical requirements that occur may not be listed above but are inherent in performing the position’s essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Mainly sedentary position and some fieldwork. Virtual and in person presentations. Requires the ability to meet with community partners and interact with community members in locations around the metro area – in extremely diverse employment settings. Use of general office equipment to include telephone, laptop computer, copier, fax, and other office equipment. Will be required to maintain regular business hours daily.

  • Keep abreast of county, state, and federal program policies. Maintain high level of skill and expertise through professional development and continuing education.
  • Collaborate with other agencies for program activities.
  • Maintain awareness of current labor market information.
  • Meet all program goals as outlined in contract.
  • Fulfill obligations as mandated reporter.
