Location: New York, NY
Salary: $115,000
Hybrid work environment (subject to change); 2-3 days in office; other days remote

 The United States is facing a growing representation crisis in immigration. Immigrant Justice Corps' Fellowship program offers a blueprint for meeting the ongoing representation crisis. Every year we recruit, train, and mentor talented lawyers and exception college graduates and deploy them with legal service providers and community-based organizations to assist low-income immigrants.  IJC’s goal is to substantially close the gap in representation for immigrants and believe an infusion of IJC Fellows can make a transformational difference.  

THE OPPORTUNITY

Immigrant Justice Corps (“IJC”) seeks a dynamic individual who can work collaboratively in a team environment to serve as a Training &Legal Technical Assistance Managing Attorney. This role will report to the Training & Legal Technical Assistance Director leading Training & Legal Technical Assistance (TLTA) services for Immigrant Justice Corps’ Fellowship program and ensures that the organization develops subject matter specific as well as region-specific practice guides to capitalize on IJC’s unique role as the premier immigration and social justice fellowship in the country.  Given the rapid scaling IJC is engaged in, this position is responsible for materials, content, and delivery for substantive training on all levels of immigration law. A successful candidate will be integrally involved with the managing the incubation of case rounds, Legal Technical Assistance office hours and other legal support initiatives for advocates new to immigration law.   Additionally, you will be responsible for managing all Legal Technical Assistance/legal support for Fellows throughout their tenure with IJC and providing direct supervision to as well as ensuring quality assurance in delivery across the Training and Technical Assistance Supervising Attorney(s).


Core responsibilities include: 

  • Directly supervise TLTA Supervising Attorney(s) including, quality assurance of service delivery and protocol driven accountability across programming
  • Manage the development and delivery of subject-specific and region-specific legal practice playbooks
  • Oversee materials and content development as well as presentation delivery for IJC legal trainings
  • Manage all Legal Technical Assistance and legal supports delivered to Fellows, incubate and develop TLTA offerings to meet Fellow demands in legal deserts and across the country
  • Support rapid response efforts and the development/execution of legal clinics and/or pro se services
  • Provide substantive and legal management support and deliver legal trainings
  • Directly supervise and co-counsel cases with Legal Program Supervisors and participate in the execution and completion of Legal Program projects
  • Provide support to the overall IJC Fellowship Program including participating in Fellow check-ins, supporting recruitment efforts, and providing input in the selection process


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Is authorized to work in the United States; 
  • Has as Juris Doctor & must be admitted to the New York bar, multiple admissions preferred
  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of experience practicing immigration law as an attorney
  • Must have at least 3 years of prior supervisory experience
  • Commitment to IJC’s mission of expanding access to high-quality counsel for immigrants and developing legal capacity in under-served communities; 
  • Relationship building and relationship management skills;
  • Extensive general practitioner experience (full gamut of immigration benefits knowledge, including removal defense and immigrant child representation);
  • Strong legal training and/or Legal Technical Assistance services experience;
  • Excellent writing, analytical, organizational and practice management skills;
  • Tech savvy and well-organized project management expertise; 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across lines of race, class and marginalized communities.
