We are currently seeking a an entry level Transportation Engineer/Planner for our New Jersey/Northeast team. Sam Schwartz is a blend of professionals with diverse technical backgrounds in transportation planning and engineering working together. The core transportation services provided by the Northeast Sam Schwartz Team include: Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning and Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Planning at Airports, Marine Terminals, Cruise Terminals, Site Campuses, Safety Planning and Engineering, Traffic Operations Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Signal Design, Transportation Data Collection, ITS Engineering, and County and Municipal Transportation Engineering.

Primary Responsibilities
The selected individual will perform various field and office tasks, primarily focused on transportation Traffic Data including:
• Perform data feature extraction - a process where roadway elements and data are manually observed via desktop footage and entered into a spreadsheet or data entry platform. Training will be provided.
• Conduct site visits and field observations
• Install Automatic Traffic Recorders (traffic counters), traffic counting cameras, and other temporary equipment/instruments in roadways and roadside areas. Training in safety and installation will be provided.
• Perform traffic, pedestrian, parking, safety, and transit data collection and basic data processing using excel or processing software
• Prepare high-quality graphics, data visualizations, and reports
• Develop deliverables from initiation to client-ready products
• Attend internal and external project meetings
Qualifications and Requirements
This can be a full OR flexible part-time position depending on candidate qualifications. The candidate must be accountable, organized, able to work both collaboratively and independently, manage priorities, think creatively and critically, have flexibility to meet deadlines, and meet the following qualifications:
Required:
• High school degree AND 1+ year of experience in traffic/roadway data collection, inventory, or roadside construction OR actively pursuing a Civil/Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Geography/GIS Degree.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 Platform, particularly Excel
• Ability to commute to the office at least one day per week
• Valid US-state issued drivers license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
• Authorized to work in the US
• Ability to carry up to 30 lbs and work outdoors.
• Flexibility to work outside of typical hours (not typical but sometimes required).
Desired:
• Experience with transportation data collection or Traffic Data processing projects
• Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, or ArcGIS
For the ideal candidate we would consider part time hour (less than 40 hours per week). Additionally, this would be a great role for someone completing their last year of studies for a relevant Engineering degree.

Sam Schwartz is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $48,800 - $87,800 annually for this position and local market.
