Job Purpose
Under the supervision of the Town Clerk and Assistant Town Clerk, provides administrative support to fulfill all duties of the Town Clerk's office.
Essential Job Functions/Results
- Assists in answering inquiries requiring research, interpretation, and/or problem solving.
- Types, files, and may release confidential information according to established policy.
- Recommends changes in procedures to facilitate administrative work flow.
- Defines and completes tasks given general direction.
- Assists with various dog licensing tasks, election-related tasks, and scanning projects.
- Collects, maintains, and updates program statistics.
- Develops and maintains manual and automated filing systems.
- Completes other duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of computer operations/software.
- Ability to work in an environment with high volume and strict deadlines and timeframes.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments.

Work Environment
Work is performed in a business office setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noise. Work is performed with independence and initiative, referring unusual problems to the Deputy Town Clerk or Assistant Town Clerk. Must be mobile, able to push/pull light objects, occasionally lift objects up to 30 pounds. Must be able to perform such tasks as writing, filing, typing, using a calculator, and skills which require hand-eye coordination such as using a typewriter or computer. Must be able to sit for prolonged periods. Has frequent contact with employees, town departments, state agencies, vendors, attorneys, election candidates, community representatives, and the general public. Must be able to concentrate on fine details with constant interruption, attend to tasks/functions for more than forty-five to sixty (45-60) minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time, and understand the theories behind several related concepts. Must be able to communicate and be understood clearly; ability to effectively interact with customers in person or by telephone. May be exposed to dust, fluctuations of indoor temperatures and electro-magnetic radiation, as with computer screens.
Minimum Qualifications
Currently pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in Business Administration, Political Science, or related field.
Method of Selection
Applicants must obtain a passing score of 70% in the interview to be eligible for this position.
