Responsible for working in a team environment on projects to develop and maintain various types of manufacturing tools and fixtures. The Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for utilizing various types of software, and machining equipment to design and fabricate tools and fixtures. The Tool & Die Maker will be responsible for maintaining and repairing existing tools and fixtures, and completing other responsibilities as directed by their direct supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Studies specifications, engineering blueprints, tools orders, and shop data and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
- Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.
- Draws preliminary sketches, prepares layout, designs tools, and details drawings using software such as AutoCAD and Creo.
- Modifies tool designs according to trial or production service data to improve tool life or performance.
- Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
- Sets up and runs machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
- Needs to know basic concept of CNC machines.
- Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
- Connects wiring and hydraulic lines to install electrical and hydraulic components.
- Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design modifications about construction and function of part.
- Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
- Performs other duties as necessary in support of departmental goals.
- Follows and comply with all Operational Procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e. IATF, ISO 14001)
