Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford or Warren three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
The Tire Modeling & Simulation Engineer will be responsible for capturing information from a variety of sources inside and outside GM, building and running empirical tire models, interpreting results for internal customers, attending Tire Modeling development team meeting and enhancing the state-of-the-art of GM used tire models.
This position offers the opportunity to expand your skill set in AI and machine learning. You will be collaborating in a fast-paced and challenging environment of tire testing and modeling at General Motors. You will work with state-of-the-art testing and analytical technologies to virtually integrate tire performance into vehicle dynamics simulations for original equipment applications - running both in offline and real-time simulation environments.
What You’ll do:
- Review and qualify tire test data for Tire Modeling
- Fit tire test data to models with documented quality
- Scale and synthesize models based on feedback from secondary data sources
- Develop extensive enhancements to advance tire models, tools and methods
- Support integration of tire models with real-time simulation environments
- Support the development of virtual tire development strategy
Additional Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- BS in Mechanical/CAE/ Software/Civil Engineering or equivalent degree
- 5+ years of Mechanical/CAE/ Software engineering experience
- Knowledge of tire model fitting routines from Flat-Trac and Wheel Force Transducer data
- Detailed knowledge of tire design, development, and manufacturing processes
- Experience and understanding of using Magic Formula tire models including synthesis based on tire construction changes
- Experience in FTire, MF-Swift or CDTire Modeling experience
- Strong Project Management and Team Leadership skills required
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- MS or higher in Engineering preferred
- 8+ years of Mechanical/CAE/ Software engineering experience
- Experience with Machine Learning or AI
- Experience in developing advanced tire models that include wear and thermal effects
- MATLAB, Python Coding experience is preferred
- Experience with implementing tire models in real-time simulation environments to support Driver-in-the-Loop project activities
- Experience performing vehicle dynamics simulation
- Experience with vehicle or tire development preferred
