Theater Technical Assistant

Position Summary

The Theater Technical Assistant assists the Theater and Cultural Events Manager in providing frontline support for all events and conference activities scheduled in the Meyer and Holladay Theater and related facilities. The Theater Technical Assistant is responsible for assisting in the operation and setup of the stage and related production spaces and may be called upon to assist in other activities connected with the operation of the theater and related spaces.

Essential Job FunctionsAssist in the operation and physical condition of the College’s theaters with an emphasis on safety of staff, performers and patrons and security of facilities ensuring that all aspects of the physical facility are maintained at all times.Assist in the set-up and tear-down, the operation and maintenance of audio and visual equipment, computer equipment, theatrical lighting, and certain other special theatrical equipment.Assist in the operation, care and maintenance of all house lighting equipment including computer light boards. May be called upon to hang and focus lights, program and run light board and follow spots for performances.Assist in the engineering for front-of-house and monitors mixes for shows. Assist in the operation, care and maintenance of all house audio and visual equipment including speakers, amplifiers, mixing counsels, microphones, cable, communication and other audio and video equipment. May be called upon to work with road engineers and audio contractors on the integration of outside audio systems. Provides sound design as necessary.In the absence of the Technical Director, assumes responsibility for the smooth, high quality, customer-service functioning of the event support operations.

Support the success of the College’s theaters by performing other duties as assigned by the Theater and Cultural Events Manager.Requirements

High School Diploma, Associate’s degree preferred with evidence of technical theater related training.

Three or more years’ experience in technical theater production, preferably with experience in a multi-use facility, and with professional touring events.

Working knowledge of electricity and theatrical dimming systems, lighting equipment, and sound engineering.

Ability to effectively communicate and work with individuals including performers, engineers, stage hands, contractors, students, staff, and the public.

Willingness/ability to work long hours when needed and to work highly irregular

hours, including late nights and weekends depending on event schedule.Supplemental Information
