Job description

Our long-term client relationship with NASA has led to a need for a Test & Verification & Integration Engineer - Gateway on the Human Space Flight Technical Integration (HSFTIC) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

Our primary government work is with NASA and is conducted at the Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX and the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL.  Barrios employees make significant contributions to our nation’s space program by providing expertise that advances our presence in low Earth orbit and lays the groundwork for future missions to the Moon through our work on the International Space Station, Orion, Gateway, and Space Launch System.  Barrios employees are also actively participating in the growth of the commercial spaceflight industry through partnerships with Sierra Space, Dynetics, Northrup-Grumman, and Intuitive Machines. 

 

 


The Test & Verification & Integration Engineer - Gateway will:

  • Support Gateway Test & Verification (T&V) Office. Tasks to include:
    • Supporting development and execution of Gateway T&V processes, from verification statements, through event planning, to verification closure, including:
      • Help with Verification Logic Network (VLN) development, to identify sequence of verification events.
      • Development of Wiki pages to document T&V status and activities.
    • Supporting development of cross-program Bi-lateral and Joint Verification Test Plans (BIVPs, JIVPs), including:
      • Coordinate with external programs (Orion, Human Landing System (HLS), Extravehicular Activity and Human Surface Mobility Program (EHP)).
      • Identify Interface Requirements Documents (IRD) (Visiting Vehicle IRD, Co-manifested Payload IRD, etc).
      • Support development of BIVPs, including Verification Test Sheets.
  • Utilize expert understanding of the product life cycle to establish and lead System Engineering and Integration (SE&I) performance initiatives for effective execution of requirements management, Test & Verification, integration, modeling and analysis, and concept trade studies of Human Space Flight vehicles and programs.
  • Coordinate and Interface with multiple programs across the NASA agency from inception to launch to ensure alignment of all operations, design interfaces and technical integration performance.
  • Apply systems engineering principles and techniques to establish SE&I initiatives for requirements validation, product development, product integration, requirements verification, system validation, and hardware/software product deployment.
  • Promote the implementation of SE&I activities such as requirements identification, verification and tracking, interface definition and Interface Control Document (ICD) development, working with design organizations and cross-functional teams, supporting development, integration, certification, and verification testing.
  • Incorporate process improvement initiatives that promote the progression of SE&I expertise within a more digitized SE&I environment which incorporates data digitization systems (DDS) including product life cycle management (PLM), requirements management (RM), and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches.
  • Establish working relationships with NASA leads, requirement owners, and commercial teammates' key personnel to gain their advocacy in the implementation of innovative data integration solutions for performing more efficient SE&I functions.
  • Provide technical systems knowledge and expertise during major project milestones and project reviews to lead SE&I teams through action resolution.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 


Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS Degree in Engineering from an accredited engineering school, plus fifteen (15) years of Engineering experience.
  • Expert knowledge of product life cycle development, sound systems engineering & Integration principles, and strong working knowledge of associated engineering disciplines.
  • Expert knowledge of systems engineering practices associated with the definition, design, development, verification, implementation, testing, integration, and validation of complex systems.
  • Experience with innovation or process improvements projects and initiatives.
  • Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal), integration, coordination and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with customers and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).

Preferences:

  • Experience with T&V activities in other programs (ISS, Orion, etc.)
  • Experience working across different NASA centers and with different industry partners.
  • Working experience with DOORS requirements management software or other requirements management software.
  • Knowledge of Human Space Exploration programs, visiting vehicles, and modules.
  • Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering (MSSE).
  • Knowledge of data digitization systems (DDS), tools, or initiatives that promote the digitization of the systems engineering & Integration discipline.
  • INCOSE Certified System Engineering Professional (CSEP).
  • Working experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software, JIRA or other similar tools.
  • Working experience with data digitization software (DDS) for systems engineering.
  • Working experience with Rhapsody, MagicDraw, or other systems modeling software.
  • Working experience with Siemens NX or similar 3D CAD modeling suite.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
