POSITION SUMMARY:
Bring your expertise a highly innovative small business providing high end solutions to NASA and other customers where you can make a difference now to the future. Seeking candidate to join NASA’s Wind Tunnel Systems Branch to support NASA’s Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel
Perform the role of Test Engineer/Test Manager at a World Class Wind Tunnel test facility leading teams with planning and conducting experimental test programs in transonic and supersonic Wind Tunnel tests. Act as a primary point of contact with customers to determine test requirements, division of responsibilities, milestone schedules, data reduction and instrumentation needs.
Manage customer and facility test planning activities, develop, and maintain realistic project schedules, track budgets, develop test plans, review customer documentation, and coordinate test readiness reviews. Direct all aspects of Wind Tunnel operations during installation and testing; take responsibility for verification of test article structural integrity, coordination of test team activities, safe execution of operations and confirmation of data accuracy and quality.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
A Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited engineering program is required.
Prior experience conducting experimental investigations in aerospace test facilities is desirable, but not required.
Position may be filled at a higher level, depending on the applicant’s qualifications.
Must be able to obtain a NASA Badge and gain access to the facilities. Must be able to obtain a security clearance if required by the customer/client.
Required Skills and knowledge:
- The ideal candidate will have:
- a solid aerodynamics background,
- expertise in experimental techniques and
- prior experience conducting experiments in aerodynamics testing facilities.
- strong personnel interaction skills, strong written and oral communications skills
- Be confident leading large multi-disciplined test teams.
- Ability to develop fundamental understanding of a wide variety of customer research requirements to guide test approach toward successful conclusion.
- An emphasis on continual development of technical excellence is expected.
Other Essential Functions
- Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. Ability to install, operate, troubleshoot, and repair model and test hardware systems or direct others to do the same. Ability to enter confined spaces and ability to move in and around machinery and Wind Tunnel systems.
- Work in an office setting and industrial field environment around compressors, Wind Tunnels, cooling water systems, machine shops, and lubrication systems. Field work can be a combination of outside and inside depending on the task. May work proximity to high and low temperatures, rotating equipment, oil, greases, solvents, and high noise areas.
- Overtime through early start or late departure from shift work may be required. Weekend work may be required from time to time as well as off shift work Swing and Grave.
- Must be able to accurately communicate ideas verbally and in writing. Must be able to obtain a NASA badge and maintain access to the workplace facility.
