About the Company & Position:
Rowell Chemical Corporation, a bulk chemical manufacturer and distributor in the southwest suburban Chicago area, is seeking a full-time Scale Clerk 1 for their suburban Chicago (Willow Springs) terminal facility. This scale clerk will work in a team environment to provide support to Rowell’s terminal operations in a variety of ways including scaling trucks, preparing and processing shipment paperwork and security tasks associated with controlling access to the terminal. This is a small office environment where cooperation and positive interaction with coworkers is essential.
This is an hourly entry level position, but a background with experience handling technical paperwork, using computers or experience in the chemical distribution industry is a large plus. The ideal candidate for this position will have a positive and courteous attitude, deliver accurate and responsive solutions to our internal and external customer needs and provide an overall excellent service experience to our customers, each and every day. Scale clerks may be required to work late, middle or day shifts as necessary, but will typically work the same shift schedule each week.
Primary Responsibilities of the Scale Clerk 1 position include:
- Control access to the main plant entrances and exits by opening/closing gates, monitoring security cameras and checking identification of all drivers, visitors and plant personnel.
- Interaction with Rowell, carrier and customer drivers to facilitate picking up or dropping off shipments to/from the facility. This includes scaling trucks in and out, determining the proper product and amount to be loaded/unloaded, directing drivers to the proper racks to be loaded/unloaded, preparing shipment paperwork, double-checking all aspects of a shipment before it leaves the terminal.
- Extensive computer work using our internal ERP systems, excel spreadsheets and email monitoring and communication.
- Additional duties include proper filing and communication of paperwork and information to a number of stake holders.
- Provide support to customer service and operations as necessary.
- Complete various business system tasks and paperwork.
- Other misc. duties as necessary or as develop over time.
Minimum Qualifications Required
- 1-5 years office or chemical business environment experience
- Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent, some college experience or degree is a plus.
- Requires lifting and handling of heavy objects; must be able to lift up to 70 lbs.
- Ability to push, pull, sit, stand, crouch, reach, climb and have visual acuity
Preferred Experience
- Excellent working knowledge of and experience using the Microsoft office suite of products – Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel in particular.
- Experience in any aspect of chemical distribution is a large plus.
- Experience working in office setting where daily positive interactions with coworkers and customers is helpful.
- Experience using any number of ERP systems, experience with Chempax and/or Syspro in particular is a large plus.
- Experience communicating in a professional setting, in person, via phone or via email.
- Experience working in a regulatory covered business, such as ISO, FDA, PSM or other regulatory orientated business is helpful.
