Position Summary: Matanuska-Susitna College invites applications for a full-time, bipartite Term Assistant Professor of Veterinary Technology to support the Veterinary Technology and Assisting Programs, under the University of Alaska Anchorage Community & Technical College. This position will serve as a co-coordinator of the program. Matanuska-Susitna College of UAA is committed to faculty diversity as a way to strengthen pedagogy in an increasingly diverse society.

The University of Alaska Anchorage Veterinary Technology Program is starting at Matanuska-Susitna College! Under the direction of the Dean of UAA's Community and Technical College (CTC), the primary role of the full-time Veterinary TechnologyAssistant Professor is to teach Veterinary Technology students various subjects in lecture and laboratory setting sand serve as the co-director of the programs. These veterinary technician students must learn both didactic and skills-based information, with an emphasis on critical thinking and clinical application of knowledge.
This position is responsible for curriculum development, teaching, and service to educate the future veterinary paraprofessional workforce in the State of Alaska. Responsibilities will include demonstrating competency in teaching lectures and hands-on lab courses with live animals which may include but are not limited to: anatomy and physiology, radiology, beginning and advanced nursing skills, anesthesia and surgery, large animal skills, pharmacology, emergency medicine, animal behavior, and other topics. The ideal candidate will have the ability to implement multiple active learning strategies and the ability to positively interact with a diverse student population using a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion lens. The ideal candidate will be able to transfer veterinary clinical experience to the classroom and help students understand the underlying reasons for their training and will be passionate about helping to develop the next generation of Veterinary nurses.
To thrive in this role, the individual should have a knowledge and understanding of professional career paths and demands of the field of instruction, the ability to; construct effective learning activities for students and provide a safe learning environment, bring real-world experiences and techniques into the classroom and laboratory, & to encourage students to be active partners in the learning process. They should also have the ability to work collaboratively with peers, colleagues, and supervisors, to use appropriate instructional technologies to support the classroom & laboratory learning, & inspire students to the highest level of achievement in preparation for meeting employer expectations. They should possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, applicants must have an Associate's degree from an AVMA Accredited School of Veterinary Technology, a minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice experience as a veterinary technician with small and/or large animal species, & must either be a licensed veterinary technician in the State of Alaska in good standing or be eligible for licensure prior to beginning employment.
It is preferred that the applicant have previous teaching experience (including Medical Terminology) & experience working with a wide range of animal species. Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology is also preferred.
Candidates will be evaluated on the suitability of their post-secondary collegiate coursework and preparation, past teaching experiences, expertise and experience relevant to the effective teaching of their specific field, and potential for providing high-quality instruction to undergraduate students in assigned courses at Mat-Su College.

Position Details:

This position is located on the Matanuska-Susitna College campus in Palmer, Alaska. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track (term-funded) faculty position complete with a full employee benefits package.
