This is a six (6) month temporary assignment (with possible extension) that includes access to select benefits.
Summary:
If you are an experienced AV technician looking for an assignment in an exciting and creative environment, you have found that role with the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. We have a need for an experienced, detail-oriented technician to join us in one of the more interesting and critical areas of the organization; our Audio-Visual Department.
This is a temporary six-month assignment, however there is a possibility for this assignment to extend as needed.

As an AV Technician, you will work with many colleagues (Curatorial, Learning and Interpretation, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, Glassell School of Art, the Office of the Director and more!) throughout the Museum, providing support and your technical expertise in a highly collaborative fashion with a "can do" spirit and approach to each work day. You must be detail-oriented and organized with excellent problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you have the desire to enjoy your work and your contributions because that's what we want too!
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical support for presentations, lectures, meetings, symposia, concerts, performances, training sessions, rehearsals, films and events throughout the museum campus including planning, advising, setting up, rehearsals, performances, and teardowns.
  • Provides advanced level of support for screening 35mm films as well as caring for archival copies of films.
  • Provide instruction for other AV techs and museum employees. Write training and procedural documentation.
  • Provides audio and video documentation of museum events, education programs and docent training sessions for archival and study purposes.
  • Provides technical support for office software suite, basic internet issues, museum network, video conferencing, audio, video and lighting.
  • Handle films including shipping, receiving, preparing, previewing, and projecting.
  • Installs and maintains permanent installations of AV equipment throughout the museum campus including repairing and replacing.
  • Keeps the inventory of equipment accurate and current.
  • Trains On-Call staff as needed.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Strong computer skills required including Windows, Microsoft Office and Apple software suite. Must have basic knowledge of computer networking concepts.
  • Must be able to evaluate, implement and promote digital media equipment, software and services that meet museum needs. Identifies, evaluates and recommends emerging digital media technologies and methodologies.
  • Recommended having experience supporting and maintaining digital projectors, slide projectors, 35mm and 16mm motion picture projectors, PA audio systems, AMX and Crestron control systems, videoconferencing and other audio-visual hardware
  • Must have demonstrated problem solving ability.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills, be detail oriented and have a strong work ethic.
  • Must be able to prioritize, work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have professional appearance and demeanor appropriate to working in a professional environment.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends to support events and films.

Education and Experience:
  • Five years audio visual experience.
  • Previous exhibition installation experience preferred.
  • Must have a clean driving record and be able to pass a background check.

Position Available:
Title: Audio-Visual Technician (Temporary Assignment)
Reports to: Lead AV Technician
Classification: Non Exempt/Hourly
Schedule: Full Time - 35 Hour Work Week
Compensation: $25.00 to $28.00 DOE
Work Location: Museum of Fine Arts, Houston - all campus locations
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
All work will be performed in a variety of mostly indoor environments, with occasional outdoor engagements.
Primary physical demands will include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, carrying gear, and computer use for extended periods of time. Other demands will include:
  • See details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Hear sounds and recognize the difference between them.
  • See differences between colors, shades, and brightness.
  • Focus on one source of sound and ignore others.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • See details of objects that are more than a few feet away.
  • Make quick, precise adjustments to machine controls.
  • Hold the arm and hand in one position or hold the hand steady while moving the arm.
  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, or assemble objects.
  • Use fingers to grasp, move, or assemble very small objects.
  • Bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Determine the distance between objects.
  • Lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects.
  • Be physically active for extended periods of time.

Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and the needs and requirements expressed in the job description.
