Responsibilities:
The Process Technician (Process Expert) role is a member of the operations team supporting assets at the Clear Lake Site. The role is intended to execute routine tasks that are necessary to maintain a stable running asset. Success in this role will involve flawless execution of assigned tasks, raising awareness of issues that challenge our ability to have flawless shifts, and collaborating with support functions as needed to work through challenges that impact manufacturing teams.
- Complying with stewardship and safety policies
- Operate process equipment including but not limited to valves, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, etc.
- Utilize standard operating procedures when executing tasks
- Maintain a high level of operational discipline pertaining to routine tasks that must be executed
- Perform process rounds and collect operating parameter data, raise awareness to conditions that are outside of expected ranges
- Investigate and troubleshoot abnormal conditions or equipment malfunctions
- Collect and analyze process samples
- Initiate and monitor product transfers from tank farm to off-site loading terminal
- Prepare equipment for maintenance activities by isolating sources of hazardous energy
- Raise awareness to emerging risks that may impact safety, reliability, or product quality
- Authorize work activities using the safe work permitting process
- Provide additional assistance during maintenance turnarounds that occur periodically
- Initiate the maintenance workflow process by entering work notifications in SAP
- Participate in structured problem-solving efforts such as RCAs
- Participate in drills to improve our response to emergency scenarios
- Participate in process safety improvement through MOC process, PHAs, Incident Investigations, and other activities
- Other activities as directed by supervision
Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to multitask and handle multiple simultaneous assignments
- Desire to add value in a team-based manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of occupational and process safety
- Advanced troubleshooting/problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (fluent in English)
- Ability to work with other groups, such as Process Operators and staff personnel
- Must have a valid driver's license
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
- Willing to work overtime, holidays, nights, and weekends
- Willing to work unit outages and turnarounds
- Willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies
Desirable Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Associates Degree in Chemical Process Technology or equivalent work experience
- Experience in operating chemical manufacturing or petroleum refining facility, continuous processes preferred, batch processes acceptable
- Demonstrated ability to advance through a job progression/advancement system
- Willingness to participate in sitewide emergency response team
- Knowledge of process, laboratory, and mechanical operations
- Proficient in DCS Operations as console operator
- Previous experience in a leadership position
- Experience with safe work permits
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements
- Previous experience in a Maintenance Craft
- Previous emergency response experience
- Previous experience reading technical drawings (P&IDs)
