Job Description
Position Responsibilities
- Learns the “art of tube making” with a primary focus on metallurgy, weld mill, heat treating and NDT operations as it relates to Product Engineering.
- Responsible for New Product Technical review of OEM and Select PMTP applications which includes but is not limited to:
- Technical Review with customer’s Engineers
- Manages the Prototype Build Process for OEM and Select PMTP applications.
- Manages or assists in the product development and program launch activities for new OEM and Select PMTP customer projects.
- Provide Customer Technical Services to new or existing customers which includes being the main point of contact for customer’s Engineers.
- Design and Perform Studies and Experiments related to Product/Process Capabilities and Product Performance by applying advanced analytical techniques and methods from a variety of disciplines including mathematics, science, and engineering. Studies include but are not limited to:
- Dimensional Studies,
- Fatigue Analysis
- Studies on Impact Resistance
- Determining Ductile-to-brittle transition temperatures.
- Studies on Mechanical Properties
- Weld Studies related to Product Performance
- Work closely with Process Engineering and Operations to implement process improvements to increase Product Capabilities and Product Performance.
- Performs metallurgical investigations to eliminate quality defects and make process improvements as it relates to new product development.
- Assist Quality Department with failure analysis of internal and external failures as needed, which includes preparing written technical reports to management and to customers to document the findings and recommendations.
- Assist Quality Department with customer product claims, including on-site customer support at customer’s facility.
Required Education and Skills
- B.S. Degree in Metallurgical, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering; MBA a plus.
- Experience preferred, but not required.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office. Experience in Auto CAD and/or Solidworks is also preferred but not required.
- Excellent organization and planning skills with the ability to think ahead and plan over a 3-6-month time span and the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Highly motivated, self-driven, individual with a strong desire to succeed and eager to enhance knowledge and skills through on-going education and development.
- Ability to apply engineering and technical/mechanical knowledge sufficient to render original and ingenious advice or service and make judgments involving engineering problems.
- Ability to quickly learn and work independently, as well as in a project team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical writing skills to write technical reports, procedures, and manuals for internal documentation.
