Duties:The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation is recruiting for one permanent, full-time, Attorney III position within the Enforcement Division. Position to be located in the Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or San Diego office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of these positions within the next 180 days.
Under the general direction of the Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel of the Enforcement Division, the Attorney III performs with close supervision the investigation and prosecution of more complicated and sensitive litigation under all the laws under DFPI jurisdiction, consisting mostly of administrative matters and will include research, drafting of pleadings, preparation and argument of motions, discovery, settlement negotiations and conferences, hearings and trials, post-trial proceedings, and appellate level briefs and hearings relating to the administrative matters.
Cases will include the issuance of Orders for violations of the law, actions to bar, suspend, revoke, censure and deny companies and individuals that are applying for or have licenses, actions to void loan transactions and to levy administrative penalties and obtain restitution for consumers and investors that have lost funds. Will issue subpoenas to banks and companies to obtain information necessary in the investigation of a case, preparing writs of mandamus and appellate pleadings.

Working Conditions:
Sacramento Location: The Sacramento office is located in north Natomas. The Natomas office offers FREE PARKING, is easily accessible from INTERSTATES 5 and 80, and is also close to various dining and shopping choices in the Natomas area.
San Francisco Location: The San Francisco office is located in the heart of the financial district within walking distance to BART and restaurants.
Los Angeles Location: The Los Angeles office is located in the heart of the downtown financial district within walking distance to restaurants, transit, multiple parking options.
San Diego Location: The San Diego office is located in the heart of Mission Valley, within walking distance to many shops and restaurants.

Desirable Qualifications:
In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively with a team and work independently to complete work assignments.
- Experience analyzing facts to law and determining and recommending appropriate action (e.g. large restitution awards, large penalty awards, extensive injunctive relief, receiverships, temporary restraining orders, other ancillary relief, license revocation, bar, prison) in civil, administrative or criminal prosecutions.
- Has a working knowledge of the laws under the jurisdiction of the DFPI, and Rules of Evidence.
- Applicants ability to analyze a case file e.g. investigative reports, discovery materials, administrative record) to determine appropriate action.
- Ability to manage an active caseload.
