Job description

Description
The Role
Our Hardware Design Engineering organization is seeking a Package & Systems Engineering Intern to design and implement high-performance chip packaging solutions for high-bandwidth, connectivity-intensive multi-core processor products, requiring co-design of silicon, package, and PCB.
What The Team Wants You to Know
The Ampere Internship program focuses on you to build your networks, support your efforts in making an impact, and giving you exposure to what Ampere does and how Ampere operates across the company. We want you to leave with the feeling that what you've worked on made a difference, a new level of confidence of what you're capable of, technical expertise, and a new network of contacts.
What you'll do:
Work with chip designers, as well as hardware designers (Printed Circuit Board) of company and external customers to achieve packaging solutions that provide robust signal integrity and power integrity performance. Simulate and analyze high-speed DDR I/O & high-speed SerDes interfaces. Model and analyze power delivery networks in the Package and PCB. Model and analyze channels for high-speed SerDes and DDR including Package, PCB, via, connectors, and sockets. Support non-SI/PI aspects of package development. Develop package-related PCB layout guidelines and documentation for use by internal and external customers.
What You'll Bring:
Skills, knowledge or experience in the following:
  • Design, or simulation or measurement or validation in the domains of power integrity or signal integrity.
  • Electrical nature of interconnect as used for propagating high-speed signals and for providing electrical power needed for device operation while supporting the power needs for high-integrity electrical signaling.
  • Developing electrical interconnect models, such as s-parameter models and RLC models with software such as Ansys HFSS, PowerSI and PowerDC.
  • Power integrity simulation methodologies to evaluate power-delivery networks.
  • Signal integrity simulation methodologies to evaluate interconnect performance.
  • Using behavioral models (IBIS, IBIS-AMI, HSPICE) of Input/Output circuits into signal integrity simulations.

Education
Pursing a Masters degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field.
Internship is for full-time starting Summer 2024 at the Santa Clara location. Co-op opportunities are an option as well.
Internships are open to all eligible students regardless of age including veterans who returned to school.
Pay and Benefits
Ampere offers a competitive total rewards package that includes base pay and comprehensive benefits. The full base pay range for this role is between $98,000 and $164,000. This role will be paid on an hourly basis. Our benefits include health, wellness, and financial programs that support employees through every stage of life, with full benefits eligibility at 20 hours per week. Beyond compensation and benefits, our passionate teams thrive in an inclusive culture that empowers our employees to do more and grow more - all in service of inventing industry leading cloud-native designs that contribute to a more sustainable future. We look forward to sharing more about our career opportunities through interviews.
