Technical Drafter

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Technical Drafter will be responsible for managing and creating datasets and engineering product definition primarily in CATIA, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and other outputs for internal use. This role will support a range of composites products including ECS Ducting, ISR Pods, Fairings, Radomes and more. SolidWorks experience desirable.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and success with drafting standards, composite drawings, composite design support, composites manufacturing, and composite tooling.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Use CATIA and/or SolidWorks for: Drafting, part/assembly design, wireframe, surfacer, generative shape design, sketcher, composites workbench.
• Create 2D drawings from 3D models.
• 3D modeling including tooling design (layup and trim tools).
• Create derivative models, files, and drawings for manufacturing aids.
• Conversion of customer data.
• Development of ply kits and laser projection inputs highly desirable.
• Estimate engineering resources and hours required, program lead time estimation.
• Work with project staff to outline work plan and assigned duties and responsibilities.
• Exhibit and practice professional and courteous behavior while interacting with both internal and external customers.
• Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.
• Aerospace/FAA certification experience a plus.
• Design for manufacturing a plus.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

• Extensive experience creating model-based definition utilizing CATIA, Solid Works or similar design software.
• Proficiency in creating and understanding aerospace drawings.
• Proficiency in in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASM Y14.5 standard.
• Experience and familiarity with composite design and manufacture is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated success in all functional areas within a fast-paced, technically focused manufacturing growth environment is essential. Must be hands-on capable of effective project management and implementing tactics to drive Company initiatives in a time sensitive manner.
• Must be results-oriented and demonstrate strategic thinking, innovation, flexibility in dealing with changing and ambiguous situations.
• Demonstrate outstanding organizational, communication, and management skills, and a rigorous attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively demonstrate business skills and lead multiple projects. Thorough knowledge of industry practices and the marketplace associated with fielded products or service.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

Education: Associates degree in Engineering or Sciences.

Experience: 5+ years in drafting and modeling.

• Project management experience preferred.

• 3D CAD modeling proficiency in CATIA, utilizing multiple file formats and composite workbench.
• Modeling and drafting experience in SolidWorks.
• Preferred specific composites and aerospace industry experience.
