The Teaching Assistant collaborates with a diverse group of students between the ages of 5 and 22 who have varying degrees of impairment, including blindness and deafblindness. A typical day involves a wide range of responsibilities such as offering direct care, teaching independent living skills, providing classroom support, aiding with lifting and transferring, implementing behavioral interventions, and fostering communication skills. T*he work schedule typically consists of shifts divided between daytime hours from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm and evening hours from 2:00 pm to 10:00 pm.*

- You assist students in helping them to control their behaviors.
- You provide and monitor direct care tailored to the student’s individual performance levels and needs of students in a manner that respects student rights to privacy and dignity.
- You give the appropriate level of physical assistance to students and assist student participation in all activities.
- You demonstrate an understanding of the general curriculum as well as the expanded core curriculum.
- You assist in the development and implementation of IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals, objectives and strategies.
- You develop and prioritize measurable objectives for students, both short and long term.
- You develop performance measures and inform students of the criteria for success.
- You evaluate student performance, keep records, and report progress in learning.
- You help in providing a language and communication model based on the individual needs of the student.
- You perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma
- Willingness to complete and maintain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (CPPI) certifications; Sign Language (dependent on program needs)
Preference may be given to candidates with:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree with experience working with special needs children; valid driver’s license and willingness to drive school vehicles.
