Math Teaching Assistant

AoPS Academy is a program of Art of Problem Solving (AoPS), a global leader in K–12 advanced education. Since 2003, AoPS has trained hundreds of thousands of the country's top students through its online school, in-person academies, textbooks, and online learning systems. AoPS Academy offers unique problem solving curriculum at its in-person locations across the country as well as through the virtual campus.

The AoPS Academy in Waltham (Lexington), MA is hiring part-time Math Teaching Assistants (TAs) with strong math skills to support our campus during the academic year. As a TA you may work with students outside of class and/or during their AoPS class time, grade assignments, host regular office hours, and run on-demand 1-1 tutoring sessions. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who want to work with motivated younger students and contribute to the AoPS Academy community.

This is a part-time VIRTUAL position for the 2023-24 Academic Year (September-June); this role also has the potential to continue into our in-person summer programming.

Our TAs contribute greatly to the success of our students and are an integral part of our Academy family. This may be a great fit for you if you enjoy interacting with students, guiding them as they work through challenging math problems, and helping them feel more confident about math concepts.

Academic year TAs work well independently and mostly support students outside of their regular AoPS class time. TAs typically work simultaneously with students from various classes/levels to assist with homework and help students understand material they missed or may need further guidance on.

Academic year Math TAs may also support AoPS instructors in the classroom to help keep students engaged and on task, support students in understanding the current lesson or skill, and provide feedback on assignments. We are currently hiring for the following shifts:

• Monday and Tuesday 6:30pm-8:30pm

Job Duties:

• Host weekly office hours and on-demand tutoring sessions for students.
• Work with students individually or in small groups.
• Help keep the class engaged and focused. (in-class TAs)
• Provide exceptional feedback on graded assignments.
• Collaborate with instructors and full-time staff on student and classroom needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must be 16 years old or older
• Possess strong math skills with the ability to help students navigate advanced concepts
• Ability to work well independently with little supervision
• Can successfully support small groups of students from various classes/levels simultaneously
• Experience with/interest in working with younger students strongly preferred
• Exceptional written and spoken communication
• Positive and encouraging attitude that helps students feel comfortable asking questions
• Detail-oriented and organized
• Familiarity with the AoPS curriculum is not required, but a plus

Location and Schedule:

Although this is a virtual position at our Lexington campus location, candidates must be located in Lexington or the greater Boston area and must be able to commute to our campus as needed to pick up teaching materials.

AoPS Academy is an afterschool program with classes in the evenings and on weekends, so candidates must be available to work during weekday after-school hours and/or on weekends.

Benefits and Compensation:
