POSITION DESCRIPTION
Teacher
The teacher(s) at Celebration! Childcare Center and/or CrossWays Preschool will serve under the supervision of the Director. The teacher(s) will comply with the practices and procedures and will affirm each child in a loving, caring, nurturing manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Be responsible for the supervision of the class, following all safety guidelines and procedures as set forth in the Illinois DCFS regulations, policy manual, and staff handbook.
Ensure that the classroom and gross motor play areas are organized and used in a way conducive to learning and positive interaction.
Refer children with special needs to the Director for follow-up with the school district. If a special need classification is assigned to the child, the teacher ensures that the Individualized Education Plan is followed. In this case, a specialist will be assigned by the district. If the district specialist fails to attend the scheduled visits, it is the teacher’s responsibility to report this to the Director. Each incident needs to be documented.
Provide students’ families with regular written communication regarding general classroom activities.
Maintain confidentiality as appropriate.
Guide and supervise the assigned teacher assistant and any parent volunteers and report to the Director as needed.
Be flexible to stay after hours, if necessary, until all children are picked up or until other arrangements have been made to ensure their safety.
Be available for informal parent contacts before and after class time.
Be available to participate in special functions throughout the year such as Open House, Parent Night, conferences & parent-teacher organization meetings.
Participate in at least 15 clock hours of in-service training each year, some of which (but not all) will be provided at staff meetings.
Demonstrate the ability to contribute to each child's physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development.
Demonstrate skills in planning, directing, and conducting programs that meet the children's developmental needs.
Work in a collegial manner with the staff, parents, Governing Board, and the Holy Cross staff and congregation.
Meet the licensing regulations set by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services regarding such things as minimum age, health, and background checks.
Participate in mealtime while the children are being served. Sitting at the table and engaging the children in conversation during the meal is expected by all staff.
Keep classrooms neat, orderly, and clutter-free. Major clean-up must be done twice daily-once after lunch and once at the end of the day. Clean-up must be done after the servings of snacks.
Organize the sign-in/out area, including notes to be passed out to parents.
Other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; use hand to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, bend, lift, push and pull. The teacher must be able to lift 50 pounds.
QUALIFICATIONS
In accordance with Illinois Department of Child and Family Services standards: To have at least 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of credits from an accredited college with 6 semester (9 quarter) hours in courses related directly to child care and/ or child development, from birth to age six; or one year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed child care center and 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 6 semester (9 quarter) hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age six; or completion of a credentialing program approved by the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.
