Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university, Masters preferred
Reading and/or math specialization preferred
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
A minimum of four years of experience teaching reading/math preferred
Knowledge of reading and/or math accelerated instructional strategies
Ability to administer and interpret diagnostic reading/math assessment instruments
Attend professional learning and utilize appropriately assigned high quality instructional materials for the student and/or student groups assigned
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Physically able to monitor student behavior and academic progress and meet other student needs as required
Physically able to move about the room to perform formative assessments and adequately facilitate small and large group instruction
Primary Purpose:
Provide reading and/or math accelerated instruction to at-risk students.
Utilize assessment results to identify specific accelerated learning needs of students served.
Develop and deliver reading/math intervention plans to accelerate reading/math growth for students who qualify for services.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Equipment Used:
Computer, FAX, copier, overhead projector, DVD/VCR, tape recorder, and other specialized equipment that is particularly unique to the teaching assignment.
Working Conditions:
Standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing, ie relocating stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. The level of mobility required depends upon the grade level of teaching assignment(s) and requirements thereof. Must maintain emotional control under stress.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide reading/math intervention to students "most" at risk of failing to attain grade level expectations.
- Administer diagnostic reading/math instruments, when needed, to students most at risk of not performing at grade level in reading/math.
- Interpret reading/math assessment instruments to determine specific accelerated learning needs of students served.
- Develop instructional plans to meet the individualized needs of identified students.
- Monitor reading/math progress and growth of identified students.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process when appropriate.
- Assist classroom teachers in analyzing reading/math assessments and in designing and delivering reading/math interventions.
- Participate in collaborative conversations to make instructional and placement decisions for struggling students.
- Provide parent support on how to improve children's literacy and math development in the home.
- Attend on-going staff development in the areas of reading/math intervention and accelerated instruction.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of at-risk students.
- Manage student behavior according to board policies, administrative regulations, and IEPs.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect at-risk students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members
- Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Articulate the district's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
- Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
