Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
o Demonstrates knowledge of special education laws and district policies and procedures
o Write and Implement IEPs in accordance to the law and aligned to state content standards
o Coordinate classroom experiences with the general education teacher and collaborate about modifications/accommodations of curriculum that target student’ needs
o For students who attend the general education classroom, meet with the teachers to obtain information about student performance, as appropriate for each student
o Provide students with specially designed instruction based on their unique needs
o Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
o Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement and goals addressed in the IEP
o Provide data driven progress reports to parents/guardians at least each 9 week reporting period
o Supervise, train, coordinate, and monitor paraprofessionals in their responsibilities and duties
o Train paraprofessionals in strategies or techniques in which to work with individual students
o Collaborate with students, parents, and other staff, as needed, to develop appropriate IEPs
o Create a respectful classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
o Develop behavior intervention plans through the functional behavior assessment process
o Implement and train others on the students’ behavior intervention plans
o Provide hygiene assistance/care, feeding assistance, and any other medical or personal assistance needed or required, as trained
o Meet all local, state and federal guidelines and timelines
o Train and maintain a currently “trained” status in Safe Crisis Management
o Attend all required professional development activities and meetings
o Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethics
o Maintain confidentiality
o Perform other duties as assigned
o Maintain punctual and regular attendance
LICENSE/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
o The employee must be appropriately licensed to teach students who have moderate and/or severe disabilities.
o Indiana Intensive Teaching License
Physical Factors:
(Occasionally = 0-2.5 hrs./day; Frequently = 2.5-5.5 hrs./day; Constantly = 5.5+ hrs./day)
• Sitting/standing – constantly

• Lifting/pushing/pulling (up to 20 lbs.) – occasionally

The employee must be able to perform each responsibility stated above, satisfactorily. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, reach, handle or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee may at times be required to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. May also be required, with assistance, to lift or move the weight of a student. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
