An additional part of Duneland's application process will be for every new applicant to complete a candidate assessment. This assessment will take approximately 1 hour to complete. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Provide instruction in all aspects of the Civil Construction pathway. Assist students in enhancing their skills in the areas necessary to seek employment in the Civil Construction industry. Integrate the instruction of basic skills into the career and technical curriculum, as well as, teach employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, and a positive work ethic. Prepare students for entry level employment into the Civil Construction industry or for post-secondary study. Assist students to be successful in vocational education by monitoring their technical, basic skills, and placement records. Assist students in developing their career education plans, and instruct students in resume writing and interview skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Possess a valid Indiana Workplace Specialist license or be eligible for Workplace Specialist license based upon 3-5 years work experience in the construction industry
  • Experience with the Civil Construction industry including but not limited to:
    • Basic components of Civil Construction
    • Basic civil engineering, site selection material preparation and equipment
    • Basic concepts of heavy equipment operation, flagging, utility location, rigging
    • Basic concepts of construction layout, ground leveling, surveying, concrete work
    • Basic concept of road construction, bridges and infrastructure
  • Possess a CDL license or have the ability to attain one.
  • Enthusiasm for Career and Technical Education
  • Ability to supervise the "lab environment" for Civil Construction
  • Outstanding communication skills
  • Experience assisting students to make viable, realistic career decisions.
  • Professional organizational skills
  • Have verifiable work experience outside of education
  • Have the ability to improve and enhance the construction program based upon on industry standards
  • Ability to develop partnerships with area employers and trades unions
  • Have a good driving record
  • Have a clean criminal history background
  • Experience in vocational education or technical training preferred
  • Extensive knowledge about careers in the construction industry
  • Be computer literate
  • Willing to participate in continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with ALL stakeholders and business partners in the development of the program

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  1. Organize and take responsibility for an active and effective program advisory committee
  2. Develop and implement a curriculum within the guidelines of the State Department of Education, and Porter County Career and Technical Education System
  3. Establish relationships with area employers in the Civil Construction industry
  4. Maintain current license status and perform the necessary continuing education required to maintain and upgrade licensure
  5. Represent the Career and Technical Education program and the hosting High School with a high degree of professionalism
  6. Develop/maintain dual credit agreements with post-secondary institutions
  7. Direct the instruction of assigned students
  8. Deliver and Maintain certification records for students
  9. Perform all regular and customary duties of a classroom teacher, maintain student discipline, perform required record keeping, inventory equipment and supplies, and perform student attendance keeping responsibilities
  10. Establish communication with students' parents and the sending school administration when necessary
  11. Assist in the performance of all standard and related tasks of the corporation teachers
  12. Assist in the maintenance of all necessary paperwork and records for the class
  13. Maintain communication with teaching colleagues and the PCES Career and Technical Education Department
  14. Responsible to carry out all other duties assigned by the Administration

  7. Proficiency in the use of all technology for instruction and record keeping (i.e. computers, copiers, Skyward)
  8. Proficiency in the use of and the ability to learn required instructional software, ( i.e. Microsoft Office, Skyward, Google Docs)
  9. Demonstrate organizational and time management skills
  10. Perform all other duties as assigned by immediate supervisors and district administrator

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is protected from outside weather conditions. There are no environmental hazards indicated for this position.
Equipment: This position is required to maintain a working knowledge of all instructional equipment. A basic knowledge of operations for computers and software, printers, projectors, smart boards, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers is required.
Hours: The regular teacher day is eight (8) hours except on those days that teachers are involved in a meeting or plan session called by an administrator or department leader or teachers having a student/parent conference. 185 days per year.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
