Position Objectives:
- Responsible for the preparation and submission of federal, state, and local tax returns, encompassing sales tax, property taxes, and quarterly estimated taxes, while also providing support for international tax filings.
- Analyze general ledger accounts and depreciation records in the context of tax returns.
- Review and offer assistance on tax-related language in contracts.
- Conduct occasional tax research.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Collect and analyze data for monthly sales tax returns, including a thorough review of purchase receipts, and prepare Texas Sales and Direct Pay Returns.
- Examine and analyze data for fuel tax returns, subsequently preparing federal and state fuel tax returns.
- Scrutinize tax-related language in contracts and proposals to assess sales and income tax implications.
- Collaborate with the Lead Specialist in tax compliance reviews and audits.
- Address tax inquiries from technical divisions with the support of other Tax Department members.
- Monitor acquisitions and disposals of fixed assets.
- Assist in calculating federal income tax estimates.
- Contribute to the preparation of workpapers for annual federal, state, and international tax returns.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is a prerequisite.
- Possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in preparing federal and/or state tax returns.
- Prior financial accounting experience, including familiarity with general ledger, journal entry, and voucher processes.
- Proficient in Excel, with skills encompassing pivot tables and lookup functions.
- Ability to learn tax preparation software.
